Glam squad or separate hair/makeup artist?

Pszab, on January 6, 2017 at 6:49 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

I dont know if to hire a glam squad, meaning artists who work together as a team(call one company and book hair and makeup together), or a separate makeup artist and separate hairdresser (don't usually work together and don't know each other)

Who did you hire?

My hair person works specifically with a small group for weddings, so when I hired her I hired them all basically.

I don't think it really matters if you like their work. I don't see cons of either situation.

Glam squad may mean your team can sleep later. Have you done a time line yet?

Personally I looked into both options, but getting a team was SO much cheaper since I'm paying one group, so all fees, taxes, etc are in on the same tab as opposed to twice. Plus it's been overall easier to deal with just one person.

I did makeup person and hairstylist separate. It was an easy decision for me because I liked specific people. I got a deep discount Tarim the makeup artist because she just did my sister's wedding. I wasn't fond of the hairstylist for her wedding so I found someone I liked better.

I booked a team because they were on my preferred vendor list from my venue. It didn't even occur to me to book separate businesses. I loved their portfolio so I went with them.

My BF/MoH hired Glamsquad for her prep, her mom and for us, the bridal party. She had another, separate, makeup artist who she knew from her building (don't worry, it wasn't a friendor situation). With Glamsquad, you can book makeup and nail artists along with your hairstylists, though, if you like. My friend covered the cost for us but she said it was quite reasonable.

Also check out Priv, a similar on-call beauty service:

I am a bridal hairstylist and while we don't have a makeup artist in our salon, we do have a few girls we recommend. More often than not though the hairstylist and makeup artists are hired separately

ETA: just because you love the hairstylist in the "glam squad" doesn't mean you'll love the makeup artist and vice versa

I'm a hairstylist and I would say glam squad if you can. It will run smoother and faster if they are all used to working with each other and know how long the others will take to do things.
