Glass Unity Ceremony?

Audrey, on April 30, 2018 at 8:14 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 16

Okay, so I fell in love with the idea of glass shards and then sending them out to get blown into something.

However, I'm not sure how I feel about it for a unity ceremony. Honestly, I want my ceremony to be super short, but that's just me.

Does anybody have an ideas about making this into something that would include the guests?? I know glass shards can probably get real dangerous real quick lol. But that way when we get it sent out to be made into something it involves everyone from a special day, you know?

We're doing this for our wedding on Saturday.
We ordered the two different color glass frit from and etsy shop that agreed to send them to us, and blow it into a vase when we send it back to them. Our ceremony isn't religious and won't be more than mayybeeee 15-20 min. We are having the officiant include part of the ceremony as the glass portion, since the scripting flows nicely.
If you wanted to include some special guests to you, get more than two colors! If we had a child we would have a third color that they would mix in as well. Overall it's such a sweet ceremony and a vase is a lot more useful than a jar of sand in our opinion 🙂

Would you mind reporting back after the wedding and let us know how the glass process went?

I've been looking into using Unity in Glass but they're just so much more expensive.

    Of course I'll post photos!
We looked into an actual glass ceremony company and they were beyond expensive. We were able to reach out to them and get it for a fraction of the cost.

Could you talk to whoever will be turning this into a blown glass vase? Perhaps they can send finer pieces of glass so there are no sharp edges.

Perhaps you could have special guest with envelopes full of glass to pour into your final container? I'm not 100% sure how this works so my advice might not make any sense.

ETA: I looked into it a bit and seems like the glass comes to you in small milled pebbles or crystals so it shouldn't be dangerous. I would just pick more complementary colors for you special family members to incorporate In addition to the colors that you and FH are pouring in.

How did you do that? Did you just ask for a discount?

Theres a glass factory in my hometown but apparently they only do light fixtures. I thought I could get it cheap through them

I looked on etsy for shops whose glass work that I liked. Then I reached out to them and asked if they would be willing to ship me the glass they use so we can have it for the ceremony then ship it back.

I'm a little confused as to what you mean about including the guests. So here's my answer based on what I think you mean lol.

I've been to a wedding where they did the sand as a unity ceremony. They passed around two of the vials of sand and asked that everyone individually say a prayer for the couple or send your love into the sand. They did that at the start of the ceremony so it was silently happening while the ceremony was going on. It made it's way back to the front and then they just got on with it. I thought it was unique.

Soon to be Mrs P's comment mentions special guests. A very large portion of our clients include their family in the unity ceremony creating a very unique family unity celebration. 6 years ago, one of our couples had all four sets of their grandparents still living and married,...their ceremony including each grandparent couple, and their parents (both sets) pouring a special color each couple had chosen. Then Maggie and Kyle added theirs. So their final artwork was a beautiful blend of all the colors. But the most special part (at least for me) was that along with Maggie and Kyle's sculpture, they made a gift heart for each set of their grandparents and parents (made from the same mix) commemorating and celebrating their part and legacy in Maggie and Kyle's marriage and life. That same process works fantastically for blended families where each child/family member adds a color of their choice and then the final artwork becomes a blended mixture celebrating each families members importance and part in this new family.
