Glow Sticks - I need reassurance

The, on June 30, 2016 at 8:39 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 13

So for our grand exit from the reception, we were going to have sparklers. However, we will have a ton of kids there and my parents are worried that a sword fight will ensue/someone will get burned/someone will get set on fire (not even kidding that person is usually me, it's happened more than once). So as an alternative, my parents want to have glow sticks. They would be long and white, as similar to sparklers as you can get. Im sure the sword fights will still happen, but at least its less likely for someone to get hurt, and impossible for any fires to start. Has anyone else done this? Does it look good? Any tips? I think white glow sticks is a good alternative, but honestly, sparklers don't really burn you. They were made to be safe for kids.

Sparklers really don't burn. However with kids there are always risks. Glow sticks may be a better option if mom is worried. I kinda like the sparklers better though.

I would hope that these kids would have parents present to tell them to knock it off and break up any sword fights.

I like sparklers better too. The parents are great and they would stop any shenanigans. The wedding is just in a very old barn and they are so concerned about setting it on fire.

What about both? Glow sticks for the kids and sparklers for the adults... just a thought ; )

We're having sparklers and I've never been concerned about guests not being able to handle them. They're pretty much made for kids to sling around, so I think it'll be fine.

I would have sparklers still if that's what you really want and give the kids glow sticks if it worries you.

Glow stick exits can look really cool!! You're not crazy with your sparkler fears Smiley smile A lot of venues have been banning them because of small fires, lots of girls who's hair sets on fire, etc.! Doesn't mean it happens every time, but yes it's a possibility!

ETA: most of the "fire" incidents I've heard about have been due to drunk guests with sparklers though, not kids Smiley smile

On the news this morning they were talking about sparklers (because of the upcoming 4th). The guy said they get as hot as a propane torch. Go with the glow sticks or wands with gold tinsel instead of ribbon.

When I was little, I got hit in the face with a hot sparkler wire. It didn't scar, but it was a pretty horrific experience. So even if the sparkler itself doesn't burn you, those wires can get damn hot.

Sparklers are great but make sure to plan ahead. At a park wedding they almost caught fire because people were tossing them around. Burnt the (rented) tables. One guy hit another in the crotch. Etc. Glow sticks are definitely the safer route but you can still do sparklers as long as you plan for it.
