Glow sticks - yay or nay?

Rosie9615, on June 15, 2015 at 3:52 PM Posted in Planning 0 22

I'm debating on ordering glow sticks for my wedding. I personally freaking love them, but am worried an overzealous dancer might smack someone in the face with one. Did you use them? How did it go? What's the best/cheapest place to get them?

I'm thinking of getting glow necklaces and bracelets... Maybe it will be safer if people are wearing them? I think they have them on oriental trading co. for pretty cheap, but there could be other places, too.

I was at a wedding this weekend and they had glowsticks. There didn't seem to be any dancing injuries caused by them. I'm stealing their idea since it was so much fun!

Leave the glow sticks at the rave, but that's just my opinion.

I have been to weddings with them before and that has never been a problem. Personally I think depending on what they are they can go a little bit tacky, other people think they are awesome. We are not using them, but if I were I would bulk order from somewhere like oriental traders.

This is a know your crowd. I think they should be kept to clubs and raves but if you think people will like them then go for it. To me they aren't worth it.

The last wedding I went to had some and it was a lot of fun! No glow-stick related injuries happened, either. Depending on how many you need, the Dollar Tree i was in yesterday had TONS of them. It was 8 to a packet.

Glow sticks remind me of kids trick or treating. But I also dislike the purple lighting so many people use. It screams 80s disco. But I'm old... If you like them, use them.

We did glow sticks and they were a huge hit!!!! We used them for our exit as well. No injuries were sustained at my wedding. I found the cheapest places to get the longer ones was 4packs at the dollar tree.

I did glow bracelets and my bar after-party to identify who could be on the bar tab. They were fun but not obnoxious.

We are doing a glow stick bar next to the DJ for when dancing starts! I ordered about 200 from aliexpress and so far so good! I think I'll go to the dollar store to get some different sizes as well. I think its just an extra fun thing to add into the party aspect!

I didn't use them at my wedding since it was mid day, but here's my experience with them-

everyone loves them, and they're fun Smiley smile so I think they are a good idea for the spirit of things.....

but, if there are going to be a lot of kids, then maybe not such a good idea.

I saw this because my younger brother bit into one when he was a kid (don't ask me why) and my nurse mom had to induce vomiting. not fun.

it took two weeks for the yellow color to fade from being visibly obvious from his face and hands, and for weeks later any time he got near certain lighting he lit up like a glow worm!

if there's kids and you want to have them, personally I'd frame a disclaimer 'not my fault if your kid eats it' right by a bowl of them. not festive, but for some may be totally necessary!

We are having them at our wedding. I've never been to a wedding that had glow sticks. FH and I love electro music (not whatever EDM is) like real electronic music and we especially love house music so it goes with the music we will definitely be playing. Smiley smile

@goose&bear - awesome, what seller did you use?

@Stitchingbride - omg that's awful and hilarious haha! Luckily, we aren't having any kids so hopefully the adults all know glow sticks are not food. I like the necklace/bracelet idea for later in the night.

We got necklaces, that some people used as bracelets. Mom got them at Party City and went a bit berserk, buying 1 for each guest. At least 25 were left over and a lot of the guests had more than one. We had about 100 guests stay over and everyone wore them up to their hotel rooms. LOL! (We had a black-tie wedding, in a historic ballroom, but we didn't care).

Our DJ asked us if we wanted them and stated a lot of couples have them at weddings, but it's not for us.

I think of a rave or like one other poster said, trick or treating, when i see glow sticks.

But it's about your guests and if you think they'll like them.
