Glycerin to preserve leaves/flowers

Lauralou, on August 8, 2017 at 11:49 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 4

I have recently been looking into preserving leaves with glycerin for a project I'm working on. I didn't know if anyone had tried this with any wedding diy? I'm thinking if my art project goes well I may try using glycerin on centerpieces and bouts... has anyone done this? Do the colors stay preserved?

I used silica gel to preserve my bouquet. It worked really great but you need A LOT of gel and it takes about a week for them to fully dry, plus prepping everything took forever too, but the shape and color of the flowers were preserved so it was worth it for me!

I did this with fall leaves - it did not work. At first the colors were beautiful, but everything quickly turned to brown once they were out of the glycerin.

I pressed leaves and then mod podged them. They become paperlike. Below is pressed only. Press them in a phone book or in a newspaper and lay heavy books on it. Let dry out for a week.
