Hello All.

Mini vent about skincare product troubles.

So I struggle with hormonal and stress related acne occasionally. I've always had success with Proactiv in the past. I ran out in the fall last year and just got more last month. Well I tried it once, got a chemical burn on my face, and sent it back. I then tried a different product line from them, hoping for better results. I got a similar itchy redness and swollen face. Obviously, Proactiv isn't for me.

My question is what skincare products are your go-tos? For stress related acne, what does everyone use? Really looking to try something else out. Don't want a breakup on the big day.

Thank you So much for all the tips. I will definitely look into these. Everyone recently has been over the moon about apple cider vinegar shot, so maybe I jump on the bandwagon. I use to coconut oil as well and it did absolutely nothing for me. I totally understand.

I agree with April about the essential oils! These can help not only for stress but also your face.

I've tried many different prescription ache creams, not much seemed to work. Proactive never worked and honestly made it worse.

I have very oily skin that also breakouts around my period too. With redness & scaring.

For the past 8 months I've been using a combination of both essential oils like:

(tea tree--helps with redness, disinfectant, & lavender--great as a relaxer for night, healing scars)

& mix this with natural aloe vera gel $7-10. I use Lily of the Desert brand , works great and can be a moisturizer too!

It's helped me alot for my redness, scaring & lessen the amount of newer/ bigger pimples. & is a great option for people with sensitive skin.

I used proactiv for years but midway through college it stopped working. My acne became more hormonal. I made a switch and I've found a regimen I swear by, I can't believe my skin right now. It hasn't look like this since pre-puberty. I use Herbalism cleanser from lush morning and night, I use a wash cloth to really get everything off my face and change my washcloth every other day. In the morning I use a Vitamin C serum from Glossier, really helped to fade dark spots and even skin tone. Then just a light moisturizer (I just started using Philosophy's Purity Made Simple this week and so far so good). At night I wash my face and alternate between using Glossier's Toner, it has a lot of exfoliating acids in it, this product is what has done most of the work. The other night I'll spray my face with a little toner water (I like Lush's tea tree one) and then use Differin, wetting my face with the toner helps it spread easier so I don't have to use as much. Then I use Lancome's renergie multi-action night cream. I know it's so so expensive but a little goes a long way and this cream has changed my skin. I had a sample size and while using it my face didn't have a single breakout so I got the full size. My skincare regimen instead of focusing on benzoyl peroxide to kill acne bacteria now focuses on unclogging my pores, increasing cell turn over and the different approach has made a huge difference. I've learned to invest more in skin care and also be gentler. Hopefully this helps!

I’m a believer in Korean skincare. I started in January and my skin has improved tremendously, aside from the occasional small pimple during my period. There are a lot of resources that focus on specific skin issues, but the standard routine is to double cleanse (oil cleanser and water/soap cleanser), scrub/mask once a week, tone, use an essence, serum, or ampoule that targets specific skin issue, and spf during the day. Once broken down, there are a lot of steps, but it’s all about keeping skin moisturized and healthy. I also take vitamins every day and I’m trying to drink more water. I hired a makeup artist for my engagement pics in October and when she did my wedding trial in February, she mentioned how much my skin had improved so I’m definitely a believer in Korean products and routines!
