Going dress shopping alone...anyone else?

PaintingTheRosesRed, on September 25, 2016 at 12:59 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 63

I never realized how alone I truly am until today...I was in foster care so don't have much family to begin with. I only have 2 friends in the area that could go with me. One of them has plans today and the other one may not be coming with me. If you have read my other post, you know that my mother is not involved much and may not even be invited to the wedding and my sister is out of state. I cannot invite SO's sisters as one is out of the country and the other one is not a very nice person. I feel like this is going to be the most depressing dress shopping experience I could ever imagine.

Anyone else go dress shopping on their own and enjoy themselves?

where are you from? It would be pretty if someone from this forum could meet you and go with you!

Otherwise I went shopping by myself and LOVED it.. I was able to be myself with the assistant and she got a good feel for my personality. we had a blast and I almost invited her to the wedding!

I went by myself and loved it. I found it relaxing. I did send my bestie a picture on the dress I bought. I am so sorry you feel so alone Smiley sad

I went alone for my first wedding and LOVED it. Especially since I fell head over heels for the first dress I tried on and didn't have to listen to anyone giving me grief for only trying on three dresses. Smiley smile

I went alone, it was quite nice. I dreaded it like you but ended up having a wonderful time.

Honestly, looking back I might have really enjoyed going alone. There would have been no one to influence my decision, and especially not veto dresses that I really liked. By go8ng alone, you can go with your instinct and no one can talk you out of it!

Smiley sad Nobody wants to feel alone during such a special time, I'm sorry. *hugs* I didn't go dress shopping solo (went with two of my BMs and two of my FH's amazing and supportive female friends) but I did feel bad not having a mom or emotional dad to take, and my FMIL and their family live in a another state......having friends with me made me feel stressed out, though, so after that I went to every fitting and dress appointment solo......I found being alone was less stessful and I could focus on my own thoughts. It will be okay, lady, once you're married to your SO you can focus on your own little family (you and them against the world or if you have pets or plan on having kids.....) It'll all shake out, these experiences don't have to be cookie cutter. Smiley smile

My mom didn't really seem interested in going with me, even going as far to make it seem as though it was a hassle to go with me (she's suddenly wants to go to my second appointment now) so my first appointment was supposed to just be me. I was nervous to go alone the first time I went so I dragged FH with me with the idea that just because he was seeing the dresses doesn't mean he would know which one I picked and I didn't feel quite as alone. I don't know if that's an option for you and your SO. Or you can always face time someone. It's not the same, I know, but it might help elevate the feeling of being alone.

I went with people last time and it was kind of overwhelming. I'm going in two weeks by myself, only fh knows I'm going. And I can't wait. It's nice to have people with you, but it's better to be in your own head and know what you like and not have other people's opinions.

Thank you for your opinions, everyone. I guess there is a plus and minus side to this. I used to think that I would have my best friends with me whenever it came time to get a wedding dress. I eloped with my ex husband, so picking a dress wasn't something I did last time.

I text my sister and told her that I wished she lived closer as I am going to my appointment alone. She said to have the consultant send her pictures. She told me that even though we are on opposite ends of the country, she will be there the best she can from a distance.

Hey! that's an idea! can you use facetime or skype or google hangouts or whatsapp or whatever zillion video chattinng tools there are to do a live interactive thing with your sister?

Like video call her and prop her up on a chair so she can see you as you walk out? I've done something similar in unrelated situations and it was kinda fun!

Where are you? I did all my shopping solo in CA and sent photos to GA to my mom in real time. It's not the same, but it's something. If you're in San Diego, I'll go with you Smiley smile

I went by myself the second time and to me it helped because I only had my own opinion. If you find more than one that you really like you can always bring one or two of your friends back!

Offering to join you here in San Diego as well!

I've only gone dress shopping once so far- it was with my sister, who is getting married in November. Her opinions were based on what she wanted it a dress rather than what I wanted. I think alone could be fun!
