Going through the wedding while grieving

Cinthia, on June 12, 2023 at 10:07 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 4

I'm getting married in less than 3 months. I'm enjoying the process, but I don't have a big piece of my heart, my mom. I know I'm going to have next to me very important people but it's hurting not having her. We're going to have a big poster with her picture. My question is, how did y'all that are going through the same are dealing with that? It's been 7 years since she passed but it's really painful. She was only 48 and we had so many things to do and we didn't had the time. Thanks

I'm sorry for your loss, she'll be with you in spirit. I understand where you're coming from. In August it'll be 2 years since my mom passed(she had cancer & it was 8 days before her 55th birthday). Granted she was there for our wedding day almost 15 years ago. So there's a bit of a difference. We're renewing ours & I'll be wearing the necklace that holds some of her ashes, as well as including her birth flower in her favorite color in my bouquet. Since then my pappy & grandmother have passed, as well as both of my husband's parents, so we ordered a reserved seat sign with all of their names.

Sending you the biggest hug, it’s so hard to lose loved ones esp a parent. Allow yourself to feel the joy of the occasion but also miss your mom. For me i found ways to incorporate memories of people who could not be there. For example you could wear some of her jewelry, or use her favorite flower in your bouquet, dance your heart out to her fave song, serve her favorite dessert or drink. Little touches that will bring a smile to your face, she is with you always. Congrats on your big day and lots of love to you 💜

Thanks a lot. Those are great ideas ❤️. I still need to choose which picture I’m going to use. I have so many and I love all of them ❤️
