Gold Wooden Chiavari Chairs... worth the price?

KZP1021, on July 13, 2017 at 4:26 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 42

I know there are probably a lot of opinions on this... but, I'm pretty certain that I want gold chiavari chairs at our reception. Our venue's chairs are maroon and black (see picture) and my linens are going to be chocolate and champagne, white/neutral flowers and greenery, branches, candles, etc. I really do not care for chair covers/sashes ($4/chair at our venue with white/black spandex covers). I have even considered leaving the chairs as is but I feel like this would TOTALLY clash with the whole feel I am trying to create. I know these chairs are usually 10-12$ each with delivery, set up, tear down, etc... but I found a reputable vendor who can do it for $6/chair including all of the above! I feel like some may think this is a really frivolous expense (200 guests = $1200 for chairs) but I don't like any alternatives at all! Any brides caught up on something as silly as chairs?? Anyone regret having them or NOT having the chairs they wanted? Thanks!

What's your overall budget for the wedding? i'd personally rather spend more of my budget on food/bar or the band/dj than on chairs, but if you already feel like you have those things covered, then go for it.

I am renting them from my venue at $6 a chair. My venue is really nice and if I use their chairs, it wouldn't do the wedding and my decor justice. For me it's worth it considering my overall decor.

    ETA....Although I am only having 75-100 guests.

I luckily do have comfortable room for this in our budget as our parents are graciously covering nearly everything else (venue, food, DJ, photographer, alcohol)!

You said your linens are chocolate and champagne - will the main tablecloth be chocolate? If so the dark chairs may just blend in. The contrast is intense in the pictures because of the white table clothes. The chairs may not be as noticeable with your color scheme. I wasn't a huge fan of the chairs at my venue but I didn't want to spend a significant amount of money on anything the guests didn't benefit from. No one really cares how fancy their chair is.

I think the covers look fine. I've sat on chiavari chairs and they were pure torture, for my butt.

I will have alternating chocolate and champagne table cloths to keep things from being so dark, so I think they would clash with the champagne linens?

I ABHOR those chairs and hate the white ones even harder (lol). I'm renting gold chiavari chairs, granted they aren't anywhere NEAR that expensive for me, but I am.

    @SassysoClassy - I totally agree!

@Mrs. Fall Bride - Yes, this is definitely my thing. I feel like it will bug me if I go with anything but.

I don't think you're crazy. The red chairs would bother me too. You might consider renting white folding chairs at a much lower price than the chiavaris. I wanted chiavari but couldn't justify the cost at 3x the price of white folding - which still looks nice

Chairs are something I never thought I'd care about until I started wedding planning! Our venue has gold Chiavari chairs and they look gorgeous in the room. And I really noticed a difference vs. venues we saw later that had older/ more outdated chairs. If you have the room in your budget, I'd say go for it- I think it really makes a difference in the overall look and feel of the room. But I agree with PPs to make sure all of your guest experience stuff is covered first.

We had the same debate. Ended up going with the chivari chair that is darker brown/chocolate color with a black cushion. Ours were right around $6 a chair for around 250 people. With reds and browns and oranges, I thought the chair added the class and elegance that went with the room.

But I also sprang for Chargers, which was not in the budget at all. lol

We are doing chivari chairs, $5 each at our venue, and we are switching our round tables for long tables.. it was the look we wanted and so we were willing to pay about 1k for the look!

I totally understand where your coming from but I personally do not think they are worth it. I too wanted them but once I found out the price for them, I knew there was no way I was going to spend money like that just on chairs. Yes they are pretty but trust me, your guest won't remember the chairs they sat in.

    I hate chair covers.

No one will notice your chairs. Do a chocolate cloth and no one will even see your chairs.

I totally understand how you feel. I'm debating whether I want to spend the additional $360 plus tax and service charge to have chiavarri. It adds such a classy look to the room. Luckily we don't have to choose until 2 weeks before the wedding.

As a guest I would rather have a comfortable chair to sit on while eating and when i need a break from the dance floor. If your alternating tablecloths maybe put the white covers on and add sashes that match the 2 tablecloth colors and alternate them as well

I spent $1000 on chairs because I hated the ones at my venue. if it's really going to bother you, do it.

I despise the look of chair covers and sashes, too!

If you have the money to do it, then do it. Is it kind of silly? Maybe. But if you can afford it, go for it.

Those red chairs look identical to the ones at my venue, but for me it works out since burgundy is my main color, with white and champagne/gold accents.

And whoever said we all get hung up on something silly was right - so far the only thing silly thing I've gotten weird over was the carpet color in our venue. I didn't even notice it when we went to see it, but I was looking at pictures online after the fact (that were taken from the balcony looking down) and I realized how ugly the carpet is lol. I freaked for like a day, worrying nothing would look right, then realized it's a stupid thing to worry about and no ones looking at the carpet anyway.
