Gold Wooden Chiavari Chairs... worth the price?

I know there are probably a lot of opinions on this... but, I'm pretty certain that I want gold chiavari chairs at our reception. Our venue's chairs are maroon and black (see picture) and my linens are going to be chocolate and champagne, white/neutral flowers and greenery, branches, candles, etc. I really do not care for chair covers/sashes ($4/chair at our venue with white/black spandex covers). I have even considered leaving the chairs as is but I feel like this would TOTALLY clash with the whole feel I am trying to create. I know these chairs are usually 10-12$ each with delivery, set up, tear down, etc... but I found a reputable vendor who can do it for $6/chair including all of the above! I feel like some may think this is a really frivolous expense (200 guests = $1200 for chairs) but I don't like any alternatives at all! Any brides caught up on something as silly as chairs?? Anyone regret having them or NOT having the chairs they wanted? Thanks!

$6 per chair is really good for those. I see nothing wrong with renting the chairs that you love. I rented chairs as well. To me, it IS an important part of the the decor and overall look of the room. Pretty chairs can enhance the space significantly and enhance your decor. Ugly chairs just look ugly and can detract from your design.

Also, I think the white chair covers look super outdated and I have never found chivaris to be uncomfortable.

If you care about your pictures and can afford it, rent chairs. I thought I would be ok but while stalking pictures of weddings at my venue all I noticed was the chairs. Not what I wanted!! You don't think about it but they're in every single picture. So if you're meh about what they have...you don't want to see it over and over.

ETA: before this I was the person who was like who pays for chairs??? Me. That's who.

Those maroon chairs are horrible. I'd probably go for the covers before spending on the fancy chairs though

Of all the weddings I've been to, I don't remember what a single chair looks like. Not something I would spend money on.

If you have room in your budge, go for it. This is weird but I've noticed when couples have "not nice" chairs at their reception.

Honestly, I know it seems ridiculous given the price, but I really think they make all the difference. What I usually remember about weddings is my first impression when I walk in the reception room.

We're doing gold chiavari chairs. Other than simple centerpieces, we aren't doing any other decor because I felt the chairs made the room elegant enough. If you go for the chiavari, can you eliminate some other decor?

I'd say go for it, you don't want to spend money on decor just for it to clash, it's almost like wasting all the money you spent! Id say go for the chairs!!!

I am doing chivari chairs. I think they do make a difference in decor. If it's in your budget to do so then go ahead. I have nothing else to upgrade guests wise so to me it's not frivolous

We looked at this because we could rent them from our venue for $3/chair. However, multiple people have told us how uncomfortable they were to sit on for any length of time. We may end up doing chair covers, but honestly, no one but me is really going to notice or care, and I'd rather spend the money on something else.

However, if it's in your budget, and your guests are being properly hosted, this is totally one of the things that falls into "it's your day".

Thank you all for your input! I also never guessed I'd be so crazy about chairs but they do make a huge difference in overall aesthetic! I have considered using the cute white folding chairs but I've seen pictures of these in my venue and they just do NOT look good in this room. I also am 100% not interested in chair covers - I can't get behind spending $800 on something I despise. We are having a large appetizer selection during cocktail hour, then salads, rolls, 2 entrees and 2 sides (they only do family style), desserts, and wedding cake. Open bar all night and we provide the alcohol so it'll be good. Awesome DJ and photo booth. The chairs are comfortably cushioned and we will have a lounge area by the bar as well. This won't detract from the party or guest experience on the least. I am definitely going to go with the chiavari chairs! Smiley smile Thanks again ladies.

I'm glad you're going for it! I'm not a huge decor fan/foe but those maroon chairs are just awful...and would be worse with your colors.

Our venue didn't come with chairs so we had to rent them either way. I was able to find silver chiavari chairs for $3.50 each. Our ceremony was also on site but we didn't have anyone to transport 150 chairs from the ceremony site to the reception area so we actually ended up with 300 chairs. I think it made the room. I couldn't image anything else. I too once said who pays so much for chairs?? Me, I do too. I am glad I did.

My venue gave me chiavari chairs for free! I was so happy! I like the look of them. It I were in your shoes and had the extra money I would total get them. Do people remember things like that, I don't think they do. I really don't care for the satin chair covers...I would rather leave the chair red then to have that look.

I completely understand. Chairs were also my thing - they're what I notice at weddings, though it seems most people I talk to don't really. We're going with chair covers since our colours are charcoal grey and red - the ivory chair covers should work pretty well Smiley smile

I understand where you're coming from. I hate the chairs at my venue. I keep debating if we should use covers myself. I've never remembered the chairs at any wedding I've been to, and my MOH can't even remember the ones from her own wedding. But if it's within your budget and it'll make you happier, I'd say go for it.

My sister's venue had the same awful chairs. She chose to rent "ghost" chairs for her "something beautiful and blue" wedding theme. (chair pads were added). She used simpler flowers and greenery instead of tall, expensive centerpieces. It was worth the investment. The ballroom looked gorgeous (see photo).

I am with you-- not a fan of chair covers and I love a nice chair to sit on at an event. For a wedding ceremony it may be okay, but not a wedding reception.

And you should have everything looking new - not get used chair covers. Yikes!
