Good Friend from work just got MARRIED! Is it CORNY to decorate her desk for when she returns back to work?

DJB, on July 9, 2015 at 8:24 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 21

Hey everyone, Happy Thursday! Smiley smile

SO my favorite coworker/good friend got married on the 4th of July her honeymoon is for 2 long weeks ( much deserved i just miss her dearly lol ) I was thinking of decorating her desk with some wedding themed things just saying congratulations and everything. Do you think this idea is corny or like unprofessional? I guess I don't know whats appropriate lol we are both younger than most of our coworkers so idk i guess thats why I'm a little apprehensive. & you know sometimes "Co workers be hating". lol JK

If you have done something similar for your co workers/friends at work please feel free to SHARE below!

I've never done that, but as long as your boss doesn't mind I think it's such a sweet idea!

Aw, that is so nice of you! I bet she'll be pretty bummed to be returning to work in 2 weeks, so that would probably be a really nice surprise for her -- to help keep the celebration going a little. That being said, it depends on your workplace. That would definitely fly in my office, but it's pretty lax here. I would totally love it if someone did this for me!

There are 8 of us in my department getting married. We normally do a potluck breakfast when the person returns and decorate their desk. We do the same thing for birthdays :-)

I would have LOVED coming back to a decorated desk after the honeymoon. I was so sad that morning and that would have made it so much better.

So nice! Absolutely do it! If you're worried about what others will think, include them and let them help or offer ideas. The nicest thing I had when I got back to work after 2+ weeks off was my boss arranged to have my new nameplate made and it was at my desk and was the first thing I saw. I loved it!

We did that for my supervisor when she was out for a few weeks due to surgery and she loved coming back to that surprise. I think it's a great idea.

I think its cute. My favorite jobs were the ones where the staff felt free to decorate and celebrate for coworkers special occasions.

We did it for a friend and actually for my boss. But it was done before they got married. I don't see anything wrong with it!

It's cute! As long as the boss won't get mad, do it! Who cares if no one else decorates anyone's desks - someone has to start it right.

If I came back from my honeymoon and saw that, I'd tear up (and believe me, I'm not a person who does public displays of emotion). I'd be so appreciative that someone I worked with cared that much about something that was a milestone in my personal life. Once I found out it was you who came up with the idea and actually did the decorating, I'd hug you and tell you to pick your favorite restaurant for lunch -- my treat. Kindness and thoughtfulness are never corny, and if people believe it doesn't belong in the work place, that's because they've never been on the receiving end of such a lovely gesture.
