Good questions to ask Dj/uplighting company prior to booking?

Jessica, on June 10, 2019 at 8:41 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 10
We are meeting with a potential DJ whose company also does uplighting and personalized monogram lighting. What are some good logistical questions to ask?? (Other than about cost, deposit, if they are familiar with our venue)

Make sure it’s actualy up lighting, lol.
My DJ said he had uplighting but it was actually just those dancing party/disco lights. Those did NOT add to mood I was trying to create.
    Thats all ive got.

If they are wireless up lighting... that makes a difference at venues sometimes. And how many are included. Who will set it up? How many hours are included? Are cocktail hour and ceremony included in pricing?

Power requirements. Uplighting (unless it's LED) does need a relatively high amount of power and if the DJ isn't familiar with your venue, he may need to contact them to discuss it.

FYI, if they want to charge you more than $35-$50 per uplight, look into RentMyWedding. We rented cordless uplights for $25 each, free shipping both ways. Totally easy to set-up! They offer monogrammed lighting too but you’ll need to check their prices.

She won’t need to worry about uplights if she gets cordless ones. 👍

Or dj had a table cloth linen that had their logo huge. Since the dj set up was behind us at the ceremony it meant it would be in all our photo backgrounds, so we asked to use a plain linen.
If this is something that won't work with your vibe let them know.
Set up and volume check if they will be at the ceremony as well, how it works if you want them to stay longer. Mics if you need them-- wireless or wired.

Make sure your package includes music for the ceremony. Not all of them do. But this was a must for us, since we didn't want to have to figure that out for ourselves, or hire a separate vendor for the ceremony. Our DJ will do both.
