GoPro for wedding video?

Amy & Dan, on April 25, 2015 at 11:33 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 15

I am a go pro virgin, guys! I have looked at the other threads about them and they are mostly about honeymoons and water activities. Has anyone used them to capture videos of actual weddings? Someone at work mentioned them to me and said that you can rent them for super cheap, so I thought it might be a good alternative to a videographer (we just wanted one for the ceremony).

If anyone has done this, how did you do it? What did you use and how?

I don't think they would be a good alternative to videography, I don't think it would even compare. If you're looking to DIY there's those rental camera type things and they edit it for you once you return the cameras. I would look into that instead of a go pro

I wouldn't suggest it for the ceremony. Quality is good to capture things like, recreational (roller coasters, water skiing) etc. wouldn't think it would be the best option for your ceremony.

I toyed with the idea of passing around a go pro or something at the reception. I've never used one before either though. Glad to have a little feedback.

I wouldnt say its a good alternative, BUT its a cool idea if you put a couple in the right hands. Like give one to your DJ and/or photographer (or someone who will focus on YOU not a cute baby or hot bridesmaid) to get some cool POV; The key is editing the footage to make it look good.

I plan on using our GoPro... We are doing a beach wedding and will have it strapped somewhere it can capture the whole night (both ceremony and reception in one place). I was also thinking about having it set up to where people could walk up to it and say something to the bride and groom. We have a really good friend that is a GoPro video editing expert who I am going to ask to edit it so it all flows!

We are having our officiant wear our go pro during the ceremony , and will be having it passed around during the reception. It won't be as good as having a actually videographer but it's better than nothing Smiley smile

My friends sister used a go pro for the wedding and the video turned out great! If you want some crazy high quality video then yea you need a videographer but if you want the option to see things down the line and your okay with amateur photographer I think it's a great way to go!

This is so helpful. I was wondering how the quality would be and if you could hear the sound.

For a videographer option, check out college students studying a similar major. They will be cheaper than a traditional company. You may not get all the edited bells and whistles but they likely have school equipment they could use to get you a good quality ceremony capture.

I'm DIY-ing my bouquet and I think I might try to hide my action camera inside! I don't expect it to be great quality and will probably be shaky but thought it would be fun to see everything from MY point of view for the day!

How is the officiant wearing this on him/her? just curious... we are getting married in a church and there is nothing behind us to attach the thing to.... my officiant would be the closest thing to us to catch the entrance and vows
