GoPro Wedding Footage

Kenny, on May 22, 2017 at 10:15 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 37

I'm trying to convince my future wife to let me wear a GoPro during the wedding ceremony but she is hesitant. She says she thinks it will look weird. I think it would be awesome and be great footage of her walking down the isle and stuff. It would be a chest mount (I'm 6'4 and she's 5'4) that way we could get the best footage. Any ideas how I can convince her to let me wear it?

I'm going to be honest here, while having the video footage would be cool, I would absolutely hate to be standing in front of my FH saying my vows, and there be a GOPRO on his chest and right in my face the whole time. I would probably have a hard time looking at him because I'd be staring at the camera the whole time. I agree that it would look weird, and I'd feel even more awkward looking back at that video and never seeing him in it and it just being all me. If you want a wedding video, hire a videographer and ditch the GOPRO.

I hate to even suggest that you have a friend or family member work during your wedding, but if you absolutely needed to compromise, and had a friend on board to do it, it still seems like a better option to me than having a camera strapped to your chest..

Agree with pp. To me the pictures would be more important and there is no way I would be happy looking at my wedding pics and seeing a GoPro strapped on FH during the ceremony

I did see a Four Weddings episode where the bride had a camera in her veil. It was really discreet and the video was pretty cool. Rather than a GoPro strapped to your chest, if you could hook up a camera to your boutonnière (think spy movies) then that would be really cool. Any options along those lines?

I'd hate that idea. Can't help you convince her

My FH and I have the same height difference. That means that his GoPro would basically be face level to me.

I don't know if I would be totally in love with close up footage of my face, potentially up my nose. It just wouldn't be flattering for her.

I get the idea that you're going with, but I just think the execution might not end with results you are really looking for.

I'm using my GoPro- my grandmother can't come to the wedding, and it will mean a world for her so see it but I dont want to pay for a videographer. We plan on putting it behind the officiant looking at us and the guest- using 3M tape on a wall. Maybe you can do something along those lines

    ETA- dont wear the gopro

Thanks for all of the input. What about having the officiant wear the GoPro I feel like that is a good compromise. Then the camera inst pointed at her face, I am also in the video, and I wouldn't have something strapped to my chest.

Same deal. You'd be distracted or your guests would, assuming your officiant would wear it. Strap it to something stationary if you have to have it.

Having it on your officiant also seems like it's going to be awkward. Full of weird angles and everything. Like Sarah said, put it on something stationary if you feel it's absolutely necessary..

Maybe the officiant could wear it? He would get her and everyone else walking down as well as the vows

Make it into your boutenier perhaps? Kinda hide it a bit? I like the idea, but I would personally be focusing on the camera because I wouldn't know what to do with it practically in my face. But if you hid it, maybe it would be less distracting?

I think it would be nice to get footage from your viewpoint but not with it actually strapped to you or the officiant. I would look for somewhere that would be behind everyone but still showing the angle of her walking down the aisle. So maybe somewhere behind the officiant.

I have to agree with you FW. I wouldn't want my FH to have a camera mounted to his chest.

Please don't wear it or have your officiant wear it. Its just not cool. As a PP stated either hire a videographer or have a friend record it using their phone but for goodness sake dont have a camera so close to the two of you. I just dont think I would want to relive a video where the camera is inches from me and my FH.

I had the same thought but instantly realized how much I would be distracted by a camera not to mention I'd be horribly upset if that's all I could see in the pics. We are having a friend bring his 3 go pros and he is going to put one on the archway and 2 in other places not easily seen.

It's so awesome to see this thread because I told FH we should use our go pros for the wedding!! videographers are so expensive! and honestly I really want some type of video to remember the day by and we love our go pro it gets amazing footage! Don't give up on the idea of it just tweak it a bit maybe instead of the chest harness use a different attachment like maybe the jaws on the very front chair facing you two?
