Got my engagement pics. Ugh...

LauraM, on May 1, 2016 at 4:26 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 79

I just got our engagement pictures back and I am so disappointed in the way I look. I feel like I look fat in every picture and I refuse to feel that way on my wedding day. Every thread on here about weight loss says the same thing, "eat less, move more" or "choose healthier eating options." The thing is, I do! I won't act like I never eat out, but it's usually once or twice a week at most. And even then, I watch my calorie intake. I exercise some, but I have back problems and I'm very limited at what I can do physically. I successfully lost weight when I started eating right, but I still hate the way I look in pictures. I want to be about 30 lbs lighter. I'm not sure if anyone else has gone through this, but I'd appreciate any advice you can offer. I really don't want to feel fat on my wedding day.

I'm sorry you're disappointed in your pictures. Can you show us a couple? We tend to be our own harshest critics...

Awwwww we are our own worst critics, I bet you look lovely in your pictures Smiley smile

That being said, I know you also want to FEEL lovely. I guess if you feel you are already moving enough and eating right, my advice to promote weightloss would be to keep a food diary and write down everything you eat. Not to obsess over it, but to give yourself a bit of perspective. Sometimes I think I'm eating pretty well, but if I think back on the day, I realise little snacks or bites here and there really added up to an amount of calories that would prohibit me from losing weight!

What are you drinking? Mainly water? Try sticking to non-calories drinks most of the time (excluding healthy smoothies, and Wine, of course). Sometimes people don't realise just how many calories they are taking in between their cokes, lattes, etc..

Try not to be too hard on yourself!!! Care to share any e-pics? Smiley smile

I'll share some pics in a little bit, I'm trying to get then to finish downloading. (I'm on mobile right now). @kristy I can try the food diary, but I don't drink any high calorie drinks. I stopped sodas about 5 years ago. I'm strictly water and unsweet tea. I know we tend to be our own worst critic, but I was really upset when I got them. I just don't want to be disappointed in my wedding day pictures.

Felt the same way! And I am in the same boat as you currently. It sounds like you are in a plateau. Have you tried doing any type of detox like a whole 30? Or something? Also I always up my cardio for a week or too and that usually gets me back on track Smiley smile

I did the same thing when I first saw mine. Mostly my face is round and my arms look flabby. But we are our harshest critics. And you still have a ton of time til the wedding!

I'm feeling the same way about my pics. I mean I recognize that my photog did a fabulous job. It's just... me. But the difference is I've gained not lost. Smiley sad I keep saying that I don't want to feel that way about my wedding pictures, yet I haven't made any actual changes yet. I've also considered one of the programs out there!! We should maybe get a whole 30 support thread going or whichever program we choose.

I feel the same, honestly. I'm dreading pictures and people seeing how "fat" I am. Sigh

Reason #1 why I'm avoiding doing engagement photos. I've packed all of the 45 pounds I lost 4 years ago back on and I can't bare to have that photographed.

I think we are our worst critics and we should accept ourselves as we are.

I'd recommend eating out only 1 meal a week. You can try to eat "healthy" out but there are so many hidden calories. Sauces are killer and are my favorite! Try choosing a motivational reward. Mine is a mani/pedi for the first 10 lbs and a massage at 25 total lost. These are things i love but normally can't justify spending my money on, so it will be a treat.

I'm sure you look fine! But quite frankly most people have no sense of what a serving size is. Even if you're making better choices you may still be having high calories in the volume of what your eating. Nuts, granola, olive oil avocado. All touted as health foods. All insanely high calorie content and usually in 1/4 servings which is like the to tiniest part of your palm.

So I would recommend getting a food scale and weighing everything that goes in your pie hole.

I'm sorry that you're disappointed. That really sucks. I'm sure they are a lot better than you're thinking they are!

We didn't do engagement photos and that's part of why...I didn't want to see them and feel like I looked bad on them. I bet you look a lot better than you think but we are just always so critical of ourselves. I'm really stressed out about the weight too. I've been doing pretty good on the working out but can't get the eating on track. I know what I should do and what I should eat but the will power is just not there. I'm now within 5 months of the wedding and can't get motivated. Any ideas?

What's whole 30? I'm willing to try anything at this point. I already don't fit into my dress, so losing weight is my only option. I just can't seem to lose no matter what. I am in the process of posting pictures, my computer just isn't cooperating with me.

Laura that sucks and I'm sorry you feel that way! That's got to just add stress you don't need.

You're probably being a bit harsh on yourself though. Work to fit into your dress but don't be hard on yourself for where you're at now!
