Gown Alteration Leftovers

Leah, on October 25, 2017 at 11:04 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 10

Has anyone saved material from your wedding gown after it was altered? Did you use it to make anything? I'm thinking of making my own headband with the leftover material.

Will my alterations lady think it's an odd request to save any scraps?

I made ring bags for the best man MOH to carry our rings in the ceremony with the leftover lining and then made a ribbon to wrap my bouquet with the leftover chiffon from the dress.

No, not at all. My tailor asked me if I wanted to keep the scraps or have them thrown away. I was thinking of getting the veil made with it to have the materials be cohesive so I said save the scraps.

I really really wanted to get lingerie made out of mine but I didn't have enough left.

I asked for it to be saved. I was going to make lingerie out of it. Unfortunately there was hardly any material left over. She didn't act like it was a weird request though

Lingerie or to wrap around the bouquet or use to decorate a sweetheart table.

This is a common request. They may even ask you of you want to keep them

My seamstress makes custom patches for craft fairs and offered to make a heart shaped patch with embroidered "Your something blue" in blue to be sewn into my twin sister's wedding dress.

I'm waiting to give it to her until she finally settles on a dress :-)

My seamstress gave it to me. I thought it was to show me how little she took off, but maybe she thought I wanted it. It was a less than an inch wide and a foot long...

There was so much leftover of mine that the seamstress made a jacket.

Am I a huuuuge nerd if I say I keep a tiny piece of mine in my wallet, just to have with me? Probably, but now you all know my secret. It started when I was wedding planning so I had a swatch to color match to, and then I just kept it, and now it's been years and I still have it, even though it's all creased and kinda dirty now.

I do want to take a piece of the lace and have it turned into a necklace, preserved into a pendant like I see on Pinterest, but I haven't done my research yet into a reputable company/artist to do it for me.
