Gown Preservation

Caitlyn, on November 18, 2019 at 2:03 PM Posted in Married Life 0 3

Did you have your wedding gown preserved? If so, how is it stored? Have you looked at the dress once it's been preserved? Thanks!

They supposedly clean it first then It is stored in an acid-free cardboard box with a cardboard torso cutout. They fold the dress in half and pin the bottom part behind it. Then pin the dress to the cardboard torso thingy. They place it in the box then seal it in plastic. Make sure it is a reputable company though. I bought a used preserved wedding dress and when I opened it it was filthy at the bottom with flowers still stuck in the lace and the feathers were all completely damaged because they were not supposed to be dry cleaned. I had to pretty much fix the entire dress after that. I guess they were hoping the dress would never be opened since they guarantee the dress will be preserved for 30-years. Going through the claims process after that was a huge headache!

I'm having my dress preserved. It will be cleaned, especially since i spilled white wine down the front and it was raining and muddy that day. It will be stored in the acid free cardboard box like the previous poster said. I have strict instructions not to store it in the attic or garage, it must be stored inside, either in a closet or under the bed, as long as it is dry and temp controlled. The lady who is preserving my dress said I can take it out and put it on again as long as it is right after a shower with no lotion or anything on my skin.

Phew! So glad to hear this. I was able to review my dress before the cleaners boxed it, however, I did open the box once I got home to make sure the dress was in fact mine and to make sure the veil was included.
