Graduation party vs. Wedding

Anonymous, on June 19, 2012 at 6:48 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

Just to vent a second. In my opinion, as biased as it might be, a high school graduation party is not more important than a wedding. A couple of our guests said they couldn't go to our wedding because they have a graduation party to go to. That just irks me to no end! What a flimsy excuse!

Just needed to vent a second...

I completely agree! FH's sister (one of our BM's) got upset because we said we POSSIBLY couldn't go to her grad, so she got all upset and said that she might not come to the wedding then. FH asked her why and she said that if he couldn't come to her grad that was more important than the wedding, she wouldn't come to the wedding!

But your guests might have said they'd go to the party before they got your invite and couldn't back out? Is it at least someone important to them graduating? I still think a wedding is more important!!

The graduate and their immediate family might disagree with you. Smiley smile

June is crazy and there's a lot going on, try not to take it personally. Last weekend my mom attended all of these functions on the same day:

    1. baby shower

    2. graduation party

    3. wedding

    4. 50th anniversary dinner

I think it really depends on their relationship to the grad and their relationship to you. It's a totally insane time of year, and your weekend is wild! (It's our busiest weekend)...I just hope they told you in time not to PAY for them! (okay it's the pragmatist in me.....)

Depends on the graduate and which event they accepted first.

I agree, unless we are talking about a close relative (to the grad) and a friend of yours. I think it depeds on the relationship between the parties.

I agree with the others that it depends on the relationship to the graduate and to the couple getting married. For instance, I could see the graduation party of a niece or nephew taking precedence over the wedding of a co-worker. Or a graduation party for a grandchild taking precedence over the wedding of a great-nephew or cousin.

I kind of think they are about equal in level of importance, both are major life events, so I would take it the same way as I would if I had a guest decline because they had another wedding to attend that they RSVP-ed to first, or for someone who is closer to them.

I think it definitely depends on the people you're talking about.

Sorry that you are upset cause they are choosing another event over your wedding. I keep telling myself that everyone else's life does not resolve around my wedding and that if people can't come because of whatever then I just have to accept that. A graduation could be a huge deal to that person. Just enjoy the ones that do show up and spend the day with you.
