Great U.S. honeymoon ideas....for August?

Sarah, on July 4, 2012 at 6:44 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 22

My fiance and I are trying to figure out what to do for our honeymoon. We are getting married next July 27th, and we want to honeymoon right after our wedding. We are on a budget of less than $5,000. We don't want anything super hot...that's our problem. Any ideas???

We're going to Charleston this August for our honeymoon! There is tons to do there: plantations, patriot's point (Fort Sumter), beaches, shopping, good food, carriage rides, ghost tours, etc. I don't know what you're into, or where you live, but if you're interested PM me and I can give you more details.

Come to the Pacific NW. Our summers are usually not HOT. We have mountains and the ocean within 90 minutes of the major cities.

If you are up for it....Alaska. I know it sounds crazy but it is not too hot and it is so pretty. You definitely wouldn't be out lounging by a pool, but there are lots of things to do and see up there, many of which are free. Also, despite what many people may think, Anchorage is a pretty big city with lots to do if that is what you are interested in. I lived there for three years, here are some pics of that area that I took.

Also with a $5000 budget you could afford to go on a 7 day cruise with Carnival. My fiance and I have been on two and just got back from one in May. We spent around $2500 on a 7 day cruise to the Bahamas and that includes all of your meals. I know you said you don't like hot places, but it could be a good option for your budget.

Well, yeah. I think the average high in August is just under 90. But I live in Tennessee, so I'm used to hot. Though, being on the ocean, there will usually be a breeze and, of course, the beach to swim in Smiley smile We though about going to Maine, which wouldn't be as hot. I haven't looked into it too much, but it's beautiful and you can sail, hike, etc.

    Southern California :]

It's not *that* hot here, especially if you're thinking like San Diego or Catalina, like someone else has mentioned. There's a lot to do depending on what you like!

There is sooo much to do in southern california and it is reasonably priced.

    The Griffith Observatory is free.

Disneyland is about $85 a person for a park pass but I'm not sure how much it is for the disneyland hotel

Hotel Del Coronado is about $200-$300 a night

I agree. We are thinking of Los Angeles.

Maybe visiting the Ramsey restaurant while we are there.

I agree with southern california. San Diego is beautiful. You could go to sea world, the zoo, and theres tons of beaches (my favs are la jolla and ocean beach). Or you could go to disneyland or santa barbara is really pretty. Depending on your budget you could go to hollywood and see the hollywood sign and walk of fame and go to the awesome LA beaches

When Kathy says the PNW is cool during summer and 90 minutes from the ocean, she is talking about Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, Tacoma.... Western OR & WA. If you visit the eastern sides of the two states, or Idaho, it is much warmer. August typically sees 100+ degree weather for those areas. Smiley winking

Gatlinburg the cabins... romantic, relaxing and if you want, a funfilled honeymoons. Get a secluded cabin with a hot tub, jacuzzi or a indoor pool with a great mountain view. Or how about a cabin with a theater inside or a sauna and all other amentities. Me and my FH went the passed two years and want to go back for more, we're thinking cabin or our honeymoon or a place called Sybaris, since we're on a budget as well.. We only use one company and that is yourcabin.com. They have everything you need in the kitchen and most with washer and dryers. All we bring is clothing, toothbrush, candles, cooler filled with foods, charcoil for grilling, beverages and snacks We also take bodywash, bath salts and bubbles, extra towels but they do have plenty, homemade firstaid kit, and games for the yard if the cabin has one. You do need to bring your own condiments.

I used to live in southern California. I miss the city of Avalon on Catalina Island. Used to go with Mom when I was young. It's a good blend of 1920s and now. Ok now I miss my Mommy so I will stop. She passed unexpectedly April 2011. Still kinda in denial she won't be at my wedding in August.

I love several of these ideas. We are going to Hot Spring, NC (as I live in Louisville, KY and it is driving distance). We will go in to Ashville, NC too. But mostly going to enjoy our cabin and float on the River "right out our back door" with hot springs water. Forgot to say Aug 2012

New Hampshire - Mount Washington Hotel

I love the hotel - its so beautiful and romantic and the weather should be perfect in August! If you are outdoorsy it's perfect - golf, hiking, horseback riding etc.
