Greece Honeymoon

Taylor, on December 8, 2019 at 12:42 PM Posted in Honeymoon 1 5

My fiancé and I are thinking of going to Greece for our Honeymoon in June of 2021. Maybe 1 day in Athens, and a majority of the time in Santorini. We would like to stay in Oia, maybe an Airbnb. We are thinking of planning for 10 days.

Any recommendations for other islands, whether we should stay in a hotel or airbnb in Oia, or any other honeymoon must-do activities/places? Anything would be helpful! Smiley smile

Yes! We're going to Greece for our honeymoon! One day in Athens, four days in Santorini, and three days in Mykonos. We're going to stay at hotels because majority of the hotels offer free breakfast so that's one last thing that we'll pay for. We'll be traveling via plane between islands because I read that the ferries are hit or miss. Some of the excursions/ activities that we booked so far are massages, a wine tour, sunset cruise around the caldera, red and black sand beach day, professional photographer around the island, and a private sunset dinner on the beach. There's a few more things that we have to book, but we're still paying for the wedding so we have to pace ourselves haha!

Oia is gorgeous but ridiculously crowded... people are literally everywhere, even climbing over rooftops. I'd recommend staying in Imerovigli and just going to Oia for the day/sunset. As for things to do, I loved taking a sunset sail (there are multiple vendors... you can book when you get to the island), checking out Akrotiri (an amazing archaeological site), taking the taxi boats to Red and White Beach, hanging out at the beaches at Kamari, Perissa, and Perivolos, and wandering around Prygos (site of a Venetian castle and the highest elevation on the island). There is plenty to do in Santorini for 10 days, but Athens is also incredible. If you are looking to just relax and hang out, Santorini is the way to go for the majority of the time. If you like to spend your time sightseeing, going to museums, shopping, etc, I'd spend 2-3 days in Athens.

Welcome to the community Taylor! Congratulations on your engagement!

Greece sounds like it would be the most wonderful honeymoon! Have you traveled to Europe before?

You should definitely check out the Santorini Honeymoon Guide for some tips on what to do and see.

Deciding between an Airbnb and a hotel really depends on what you want from your honeymoon. Obviously a huge plus of an Airbnb is that you have your own space and privacy whereas hotels often have a lot more amenities to offer.

What style of honeymoon are you hoping to have?

Thank you! We just returned from Austria, Germany and Prague a few months ago. This was our first trip to Europe, and where my fiancé proposed in Hallstatt, Austria. I will definitely check out the guide before booking! I think I like the idea of the Airbnb at least in Oia, and maybe hotels everywhere else. We want to be able to relax, but also have a few days of exploring. I love the ideas posted and can't wait to begin booking! Thank you!
