Greek Wedding Dance

Kristina, on July 2, 2016 at 3:07 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

Hello! My dad's side of my family is Greek, and so my fiancee and I want to play a song for people to dance to during our reception, and we are hoping for an easy one so that our other guests can join in as well! Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Ask your dad Smiley winking

I'm Greek and I don't even know what the dances are called. There can be many different songs, but the beat or rhythm is what determines what the dance steps are. You just have to listen and then let your feet do their thing! Do you know how to Greek dance? Your guests will be able to figure it out if you play music for the dances with basic steps. So, ask your dad to pick songs that are for the Greek dances with the easier steps if you want people to try and join in. You have to get the specific song names to give your DJ or else he/she will have no clue Lol

We had some Greek music at my wedding. My dad requested specific songs from the DJ. Not everyone knew what to do, but they tried and it was so fun! These pics are from my reception Smiley smile

PS.. plan on having more than 1 Greek song! My husband's friends from college LOVED it and kept asking my dad to have the DJ play more! lol

PPS: This is my Dad's all time favourite song hahaha. It was played twice at our reception. Its a really nice song Smiley smile

Miserlou is a very famous Greek line dance song.

    Rompi Rompi

    And Mavi Mavi.

Steer clear of distinctly Turkish music or Greek music played by Turkish people.

Shameless plug, bellydancers are very common for weddings, including Greek weddings. If you can swing it I would recommend it. It's tons do fun!

This is something I'm struggling with too! I'm the first not 100% Greek in my dads family and my moms side is Irish/English/who knows. My dad wants Greek music but I have 3 left feet and can't figure out he simplest line dances. Hoping I can figure something out!

@Kaitlyn, could you have your dad teach you? Or if there is a Greek Orthodox church near you, maybe they have a festival dance group that would be willing to teach you? (I'm not Greek, but I do go to the local church's food festival every year--yum! They always have a group of their young people doing some dances.)
