Greenery over flowers?

Rachel, on April 14, 2018 at 12:52 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 13
I really want to use lots of greenery and no actual flowers? Anyone done this? Was it more cost effective?

This is what I'm doing! The only actual flowers I'm having will be in my bouquet, and only a few roses then. It's much more cost effective, and still super beautiful IMO. Not sure what your budget is, but I was able to get my bouquet, three bridesmaids bouquets, four boutonnieres, 7 greenery wreath centerpieces, a 20 foot greenery garland, a decorative fixture for behind our head table, and a staircase garland for about $1,900. Opting for greenery probably saved me thousands.

Awesome! We are looking at our venue again today so I'm thinking multiple garlands for the tables. Its a loft space so I want to put them in the ceiling with lights. I'm super excited about the look and feel. I've never been big on flowers so its good to hear I'll probably save quite a bit.

I'm doing greenery centerpieces because my florist is on the pricier side and it was was more cost effective. But it will depend on what you get. If you want thick lush garlands for long tables, that can add up really quickly.

I've also seen more and more bridesmaids bouquets with just greenery and it's really pretty.

Contact some florists and get some quotes.
Greenery will usually be cheaper than flowers but not necessarily cheap depending on what vision you have.

Garlands will be a lot more expensive than flowers or just using greenery because they are very labor intensive to make. They are priced by the foot and range anywhere from $15-25 per foot. I really wanted garlands for my centerpieces so to get the most use out of them for the price I also used them to drape the pews for the ceremony.

We're doing mostly greenery and I definitely think it helps with the cost. Our arbor will be mostly greenery with maybe a few red flowers (inspiration pic attached), my bouquet will have a couple red flowers and mostly greenery, BMs will have small bouquets with mostely greenery and one white flowers, FG's bouquet will be a smaller version of the BMs, centerpieces are simple mecury glass/copper votives with greenery and one red flower and we may do something very simple for the backs of just our chairs (inspiration pic attached). All of this will cost roughly $1,543. Ask your man and the mothers if they want boutonnieres and corsages. They aren't usually too expensive, but eliminating those will help some with cost.

We're doing the same! If you live in a major city, you probably have access to a wholesale florist. Our garland for the tables is only costing us $6-$8 per foot! I decided to go this route after getting outrageous prices from local florists.

This is also my inspiration photo for my arch and my dad built it out of copper piping! Ours will be decorated similarly but will have some ivory flowers mixed in with the greenery. Love it!

Me! I want to do this, but I don’t know if it will be more cost effective, since I want to use exotic and tropical foliage.

I think greenery is more beautiful than flowers, truthfully. If you have your heart set on a pop of color, ask your florist for an in season inexpensive flower, like white stalk or white (or a color) mini carnations.

I'm obsessed with greenery and plan on having a good deal of it as decoration for our wedding. There will be some flowers mixed in for added interest. Mostly stem flowers like fox gloves.

I don't know about cost effectiveness though since garlands can be incredibly expensive. But that could just be my area.

Garlands are expensive, but I plan to order mine online (from Sam's, Costco, or a wholesaler) and have a florist do other stuff. I was told the other day that greenery can be cheaper, but it could also be expensive depending. She was explaining that people often think greenery is cheaper because it costs less than flowers, but that often people want to use a ton of greenery, and that's what brings the cost up.

I wanted a garland on either side of the pew but it came out to be more expensive than flowers from my florist! It was going to be 10 bucks per foot and the church aisle is 55 feet long. We went instead with small bouquets of flowers tied to the benches every 2-3 benches and it came out quite pretty.

Yes! I think greenery is super trendy right now because I see more people using it. We are for all greenery for our flowers, my bouquet will be the only one with greenery and flowers. Garlands are expensive so we’re only having garlands on the fireplace behind our sweetheart table. Loose eucalyptus on the tables with candles as centerpieces and a HUGE greenery chandelier in the center of the room!
