Greenery

Natasha, on July 17, 2017 at 8:35 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 12

Hi everyone! We are doing a spring wedding, and I LOVE the idea of using a lot of greenery mixed in with some flowers. But I don't love the cost of using a florist for everything. I'd like to try making my own centerpieces using eucalyptus (or something similar). Has anyone done this? If so, how'd go? Any tips or tricks?

I've heard eucalyptus can have a very strong smell, so I'd be careful using too much of it.

I did mine; they looked a lot like your sample, but with moss 'rivers' directly on the table instead of euc...it took me way longer than I thought but it was spectacular. It also cost more than I could ever imagine....

    Never again

You don't need to make garland to get that look. You can simply lay down the branches of greenery overlapping the cut end with the next one so it is hidden. At the other end of the table, just turn the branch the other way and tuck the cut end behind.

You can use small arrangements in floral foam or just insert flowers in floral tubes.

    Add votives or pillar candles.

As Kate mentioned Sam's club, I will be ordering greenery from them and then having a local grocery store do all the flower stuff.

On a previous thread, another poster recommended fifty flowers. Seemed like they had a lot of greenery (including eucalyptus) that can be bought in bulk. Good luck!

My florist is using a different type of eucalyptus in our bouquets. It doesn't smell... idk if it's some type of hybrid or it's a normal thing all florists know about lol

Eucalyptus has a very strong smell. I wouldn't recommend large amounts of it especially on the table, near food. Some people like myself like smell (I grew up around it so nostalgia) but I don't know anyone else that likes it.

Sams club could work. We ended up getting quoted for if we did it ourselves or had the florist do most of our greens and flowers and turned out that in the long run the florist wasn't too much more expansive. We are doing something similar to your picture on the sweetheart table, then are doing 2 different centerpieces with orchids and euc.

I did something very similar but I had the florist handle it. I had enough going on to try and handle something as elaborate as garlands on all the tables. My florist used wholesale flowers and it came out to be $780 for four, 12 foot tables so about $16.25 per foot. I would get a formal quote from a florist before you decide to do it yourself.

I would hire a florist for greenery before flowers actually. Flowers usually look nice and are harder to mess up. Greenery really needs a trained eye to make elegant and not like you plopped cuttings on the table.
