grocery store flowers

R+J, on June 26, 2014 at 10:45 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 31

Ok, this might skeeve out some brides but im a bride on a budget. I went to 5 different flower shops and each want ridiculous amounts of cash. While doing my groceries, I stopped to ask the florist at ShopRite what their rates were and let me tell you, I was very very surprised ! You only pay for the flowers your arrangement has and a dozen roses is only 10 bucks! 10 BUCKS (w your price plus card lol) ! I actually got to see an arrangement she made and it looked REALLY nice. If you want to save some money, spending $15 on a practice arrangement isn't a bad idea. I know I did and I am very very pleased. An arrangement of roses at a florist will run you $40 , at shop rite, they do the SAME thing and it was $30 less. Just saying ladies, think about it.

I'm planning on going with whole foods, or a store nearby that has Thursday deliveries (or Friday morning) so I can pick them up Friday night before the wedding

I think people underestimate market flowers. But the are grocery chains whose floral dept is a member of FTD or Teleflora, and have wonderful designers for a lot less than a traditional florist Smiley smile

Yes, people def underestimate how talented some of these grocery store florists are and the quality of the flowers. I just bought my little girl a bouquet of roses for her ballet recital and the roses are HUGE and opening up quite beautifully. If you wanna cut some costs, this is a great alt.

I'm using Wegman's. There's no DIY involved and they deliver. That being said, I probably only saved a few hundred dollars.

Keep in mind also that if you go with silk arrangements you can go to Michaels. When you buy all or the majority of your flowers there the designers will make all your arrangements for you for free. Can't be free labor. Labor charges alone jack up the cost of florals.

I use to be a florist in a local grocery store and I can tell you the training we go through is extensive and continuous.

I haven't bought my flowers yet, seeing as my wedding date is still a yr and about 4-5 months away. But I've also heard grocery store flowers work out very well not just in cost, but freshness, and wide variety as well. This is what I plan to use as my date nears.

My cousin did this years ago and her flowers were GORGEOUS! Her floral package was quoted by local florist at over 4K and she got everything she wanted for under $600 at the grocery florist. I am all for same product, better price = brilliant

Yep! That's what I'm doing. I am only having flowers in our bouquets, no decorations. But we are doing that to save money and they look just as good.

Our wedding is in May, peak wildflower season in Texas. I plan on getting Baby's Breath from a grocery store and then picking a couple bright wildflowers the night before/morning of to add to the bouquet. Depending on the quality and quantity of wildflowers, I may add them to the bridesmaids bouquets or they will just be babysbreath. The price for a florist is simply outrageous. I'm not doing large floral centerpieces, instead I'm doing small milk vases with babysbreath and wildflowers and an assortment of vintage and vintage-inspired picture frames with wedding photos of our family members.

A lot of people do grocery store or Costco flowers! Not a damn thing wrong with it. I'm going one step lower; wildflowers picked from the side of a road by a family member!

In hindsight, I would have! I would have went with Sam's Club or Harris Teeter (local grocery store).
