Groom Suit

Sam, on June 5, 2021 at 9:57 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10
Hi all!

We need help finding my groom a suit! He tried menswear house and they were a total flop. Very small selection and it seemed they catered to renting... my groom wants to purchase. He found a place that was recommended to him called INDOCHINO.... I’m very skeptical based on the reviews(poor quality, bad fits, poor customer service, pricey, alterations done in china from what it seems) we were thinking of trying Macy’s or Dillard’s? Has anyone tried Macy’s or Dillard’s?
Thanks in advance!

We purchased his suit on Etsy! We found lots of choices we loved, great reviews with pictures & the shop owners are super helpful in finding the size that is perfect. We are only going to need to hem the pants a tiny bit.. everything else is great!

I would try a few different department stores like Macy’s, Kohl’s, JC Penney’s, etc

Don’t do Indochino. My fiancé tried to get a suit from there and it was completely wrong TWICE. And not just wrong, but like a tailor couldn’t even fix it wrong. I wouldn’t recommend them. I’d recommend a local store or smaller boutique.

    Hi Colleen,

Thank you for the reassurance to stay away from INDOCHINO. It’s unfortunate what happened to your fiancé but that was a VERY common complaint.... my fiancée is extremely tall (6’7) athletic build and its very hard for him to find a suit in his size so the idea of having a custom suit made sounded “good” . We are certainly going to stay away from INDOCHINO. He’s going to take a look at Macys and Dillards to see what there options are. Thank you kindly again!Sam

A local department store will be your best bet. Macy’s, Dillards, Nordstrom, etc are very reputable.

Not sure if you would be into this but Generation Tux has been wonderful. It’s an online store but their fit algorithm is legit. We ordered my fiancé’s home try on and it fit perfectly; depending on how many suits in your order, the suit or tux rental is free for the groom. Plus there is the option to buy. . . All swatches are free too!

We had the same problem. My husband wanted a very specific grey and wanted to purchase and wanted a vest which not every store had. But he did not want to buy online. We went to every single store we could think of. It took way more time (and stress) than my dress. Lol. We also started at Men's Warehouse and almost bought something there but it wasn't 100%. We tried the department stores but couldn't find anything (though would say definitely worth a try). The sales people there were also horrible. At Dillard's the guy kept asking to my fiancé as the father of the bride and I kept correcting him but he didn't hear me (I was 39 and my fiancé 50). I am still mortified. We also both didn't know much about suits.

At the end he bought a suit at JoS Banks and were super super happy with it. I am just not sure if they are everywhere. They have discounts pretty much all the time. My husband wanted slim fit pants but they didn't have that in the color he wanted. So he bought the classic fit and they altered it and it came out perfect!!! They also had the best customer service and helped us order the right size. Husband is short with small waist and broad shoulders and a lot of standard sizes didn't fit but they were able to order all sizes plus had all sizes there to try on (just not on our color) plus they gave us good advise what could be altered. I am sure at Dillard's or Macy's they could have done the same but we just had bad luck with sales people. My advise would be to think about alterations for pants if you can't find a perfect fit...without that option we would probably still be looking (we got married three months ago).

    Hi!

Thank you so much for the response! Oh my gosh right!? Finding my dress was a relatively quick and smooth process, went into one store and purchased it that day. My fiance and one of his groomsmen are heading out to Macy's and Dillards today. I'm hoping he will have luck!

    Thanks again!

I would suggest checking out State and Liberty! This is where my FH is ordering his custom tux from. They cater to men with athletic builds which I see you mentioned above, my FH struggles with this as well as a former hockey player. We went to one of their stores in Boston and the quality of the material seemed super nice and is flex fit so it has stretch, not sure what your budget is but I believe their custom suits and tuxes start at about $650. They told us to come in for measurements about 6-8 weeks before the wedding. FH has a couple suits from Indochino as well but I found the quality to not be worth the price he had a suit jacket rip after only a couple years of inconsistent wear.
