Groom's Cake Question.

FutureMrsD., on October 2, 2016 at 6:36 PM Posted in Planning 0 31

I'm going to surprise Fiance with grooms cake. It's a while away, but I was just curious - If you are doing a Wedding cake and a Grooms cake does one usually include the overall count for both cakes? Ex: If i have 100 people do I have a wedding cake that would feed maybe 70 and the grooms cake feed 30? Or is the wedding cake going to be for 100 people and then add on a grooms cake for an extra 20 or 30 people? I know this is something I could just email a wedding cake vendor, but I figured I would ask here since I am still haven't decided on a wedding cake vendor. Thank you so much in advance and I hope my questions makes sense!

Well I'm not really sure why you would want enough cake to feed 130 people if you only have 100. I always assumed both cakes equal the amount of guests together. You could also have the grooms cake at the rehearsal dinner if you are having one.

ETA what is his cake going to be? I need ideas! Ha

I'm doing a small grooms cake but I am doing it as dessert for the rehearsal dinner. I am surprising my FH with it as well, since our wedding cake is part of our package with our reception venue the grooms cake is going to be paid for separately. I'd say for specifics, figure out how many people are being invited, and then split the cake servings, I wouldn't do 50/50 I'd do more 70/30.

Our grooms cake will be our dessert at the rehearsal dinner. But if I were you, I'd split the servings between cakes. No reason to pay for more cake than you'll need.

My fiancé is super difficult when it comes to this stuff. He doesn't like any sports teams or cars and he's not the fixer upper type. The only thing he really has an interest in is music (he plays the guitar) or superhero movies. I was thinking about adding a little dead pool guy coming out of the bottom of the wedding cake.

I really want cake right now! Ha

Thanks guys. You know. I LOVE the idea of having a grooms cake to be at the rehearsal dinner! I may end up going with that idea to be quite honest!

But yes it made a lot of sense to me to split the total amount of guests between the two cakes if we were to have both cakes @ the wedding but I wasn't sure!

I'm playing around with a couple ideas! He loves the Dallas Cowboys so that could be a possibility. He likes paintball - his best man suggest i get a simple round cake and it be decorated in the same style and color scheme as his patinball gun or the logo for the company he works for He'd get a good laugh out of either 3 haha.

@MizzCara - you could always get a cake made out in the shape of a guitar! Smiley smile

We're having a grooms cake and wedding cake. We're expecting somewhere between 120 and 130 people. The grooms cake is two tier and serves 48 people, the wedding cake is three tier and serves 74, so a total of 122 servings. I've heard that that's probably too much since we won't be serving the slices to guests at their table and not everybody will eat cake, but my parents can take home the leftovers.

We had our groom's cake at the reception, and we had enough of each cake for everyone. It ended up being way too much cake, but that means more for us! We have a bunch of the groom's cake in the freezer. Smiley smile

We had our groom's cake at the RD as dessert. I surprised DH, he didn't have a clue.

There's always the Steel Magnolias armadillo groom's cake...... some people might get a huge laugh out of that one.

I included the overall count and got the cakes sized so that together they would feed everyone.

I'm having FH grooms cake at our welcome dinner on Friday night and then we have our wedding cake on Saturday when we get married. My FH graduated Marshall University so this is his cake. While I think it's cute for Welcome dinner it's not something I would want at our wedding. Go Thundering Herd!!!

I am doing a hidden groom's cake on the back of my wedding cake so that from the front it looks like a regular wedding cake, but the back is hidden by fondant "curtains" and it will be Star Wars themed. He's been asking for Millennium Falcons crashing into the cake and I just keep telling him it's going to be basic so I'm really excited to surprise him!

I think it makes sense to have it split among the two cakes. Also, I really love the idea of it being done at the RD. I never even thought of that!
