Groom's cake: Rehearsal or Reception?

WWKatie, on October 22, 2015 at 3:42 PM Posted in Planning 0 28

Those of you that are doing a groom’s cake: are you having this at the Rehearsal Dinner or Reception? I’ve seen it done both ways, so I was curious what you are all doing/have done!

We had ours at the rehearsal because it would have been too much cake at the reception. We had the wedding cake AND a dessert table so it would have been too much. It ended up being a big hit at the RD.

I have never heard of doing it at the rehearsal! Such a good idea because I thought the grooms cake was such a waste of money.

I'd say rehearsal dinner because everyone can enjoy it! I've heard many people seeing it wasted at actual wedding!

We are doing ours at the rehearsal. It will be a snickers flavored Philadelphia Flyers cake and I'll probably want to want the entire thing.

Having the grooms cake at the rehearsal is an awesome idea. I wish I would have heard that before our wedding I definitely would have done one. We didn't do one because every time I've seen it at a wedding it was wasted so seemed like a waste of money.

Definitely RD. We didn't do a groom's cake, but we did choose H's favorite dessert (cheesecake) for the RD.

We're doing ours at RD. We're having cake and a dessert table at the reception so adding in a groom's cake would be too much.

I say wedding unless your wedding cake is enough to feed everyone by itself.

I just ordered my groom's cake! He's a huge Michigan football fan so that's the theme. I plan on surprising him with it at our rehearsal dinner.

I've only seen it at a rehearsal once. The rest of the time - it's at the wedding.

So, wedding! More to choose from!

I am thinking about doing it at the rehearsal dinner and instead of cake doing cheesecake because that it FH's favorite dessert! Smiley smile

Neither! Okay, in our case, a "groom's cake" would have been pretty silly. But even otherwise, why would you have a "wedding cake" (not a "bride's cake") and a "groom's cake"? No one makes a "bride's cake" in the shape of something the bride likes and the groom doesn't. As far as I'm concerned, the groom's cake is just one more symptom of the fact that the whole wedding day is treated as belonging to the bride, with the groom just getting one cake as a sop.
