Groom's cake: Rehearsal or Reception?

Those of you that are doing a groom’s cake: are you having this at the Rehearsal Dinner or Reception? I’ve seen it done both ways, so I was curious what you are all doing/have done!

I've never seen it done at the rehearsal but I think it's a great idea. Having two cakes at the wedding seems like a lot unless you are making the main cake smaller though that is always an option.

The grooms cake is usually smaller and a different flavor than the wedding cake. We will do ours at the reception. Groom's cake are a big deal in FHs circle bc they show off the groom's interest. We plan on having a kings cake for FHs groom's cakes. Its a New Orleans Mardi Gras tradition. Instead of the Mardi Gras colors (purple gold green) the stripes on the icing will be FHs favorite football team colors/his fraternity colors black & gold. The base icing will be the traditional white.

H isn't a huge fan of cake, but absolutely loves sugar cookies. I surprised him with "groom's cookies" made by the same baker who did our wedding cake also at the wedding and they were seriously the best cookies ever---H loved them! I had them at the wedding because I knew H wouldn't eat any wedding cake but would still like to have dessert--so it worked for us!

Interesting, I've never heard of it being at the RD. We'll be doing ours at the reception to add even more variety to the dessert table.

My FH never heard of a grooms cake when I casually mentioned it. I am surprising him with one at the RD.

I honestly had to look up what a groom's cake was. another thing I'd never heard of before coming on here.
