Grooms cake - worth it?

Did everyone here do a grooms cake? Everyone keeps suggesting I should do one because it's the tradition, but for one, FH hates cake, won't touch it. Two - I'm getting a cake big enough to feed at least 300 people so we'll have plenty and I don't want any leftover. I'd rather put the money towards...

It's always been a tradition in the south to do it at the wedding. The question is when did it become a rehearsal dinner thing?

I think the grooms cake is such a waste of money. You already having your wedding cake.

We aren’t doing a grooms cake at the wedding. But we are doing one for the welcome party we are having the night before.

I've seen these and it just looks so weird and out of place because it's usually dark colors with a sport theme or something of that nature. It would conflict with my decor so probably won't be doing this and we are not big on sweets at all.

if your groom wants one then yes but my groom doesn't even like cake *sigh* but his favorite sport is football so just to add a little of him I got a small cookie in the shape of a football added to my cake that looks like he threw it into the side of my cake. I'd say no. I've literally never heard of a groom's cake until I came on WW (I'm from east coast U.S.) so I would say it's tradition only for certain regions.

I'd never heard of one before coming here. They are totally unnecessary. That said, I may get a small one to surprise him. He can't have regular cake and neither can one or two of the other guests, so I would do a sugar-free cake, if there is money left in the budget. If not, he won't care at all.

Here are a few examples, they are sooo freakin ugly, I just can't. If I did do one it would have to be a mini cake that was barely noticeable, like you take 3 good slices and it's gone. Smiley smile These are so hideous.
