Grooms Ring- Surprise or Not?

Natalie, on May 17, 2020 at 1:45 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 2 26
Is the grooms ring supposed to be a surprise to him? Are you all waiting to let him see it, or does he see it when you get it? I'm just curious, didn't know what is " traditional" or what others do?

Husband picked his ring out - I had no idea of what he wanted (and neither did he until he tried a few). I wouldn’t have wanted to surprise him with it.

My fiance and I looked for his ring together. We found one we both liked (I wanted them to some how "match" in a way) on etsy, and then he has a separate (silicone) one to wear for work

FH has picked his ring out, I had no idea what he would want as he’s never worn rings before and he didn’t know either, so we’ve gone to the jeweler a few times so he can try different ones on! We’re also basically just splitting the cost of everything so it’s not like I buy his ring and he buys mine, we just have a bunch of money we’ve thrown in a pot and are using it for wedding related things!

My thought is he’s going to wear it every day for the rest of his life so I wanted him to like it. I wouldn’t want to surprise him with something he doesn’t like.

FH and I went together and picked out our wedding bands. It’s only right he sees it I think, because he’s the one who is going to be wearing it everyday!
I’m glad we went together because he looked at two rings and bought both (he’s an electrician and cannot wear certain material at work) and when we got home he hated one of them! But he loves one of them, so now to at some point return one of them and find another in its place!
Be careful too, the woman at Zales ASSURED my fiancé and I that the tungsten ring he wanted to wear to work would not conduct electricity and he went home and tested it and in fact it did! He said he had a gut feeling about it too, so we are both happy he decided to find out before he got zapped at work!

As much as I wanted to keep it a surprise, he really wanted to pick out his ring 😊

We went together to look at a ring for him and he tried on a few. Initially he had one idea of what he liked but when he tried a few on, he actually found one better that was the complete opposite.

My husband picked out his own ring. He wanted something very specific and since he is going to wear it every day for the rest of his life I wanted him to pick something he liked.

He picked out why he wanted and I picked out what I wanted. My FH had really good rationale behind it too. You are going to wear that every single day. It should be something you like.

We also got him a silicon ring because he is law enforcement and not allowed to wear a metal ring on duty.

Thanks, that's what I was thinking. He showed me one he tried on (a pic). So, was curious if anyone waited to show their husband's.

My FH picked his out too. Maybe we’re not very traditional but I paid for my band and he paid for his, cause my band was 4x the price of his and I would have felt guilty if he paid for mine

I’ve heard of couples doing that! Smiley smile My husband ended up paying for both of ours because according to him “it’s all coming from the same back account once we’re married anyway.” I think he just wanted the AMEX points though. 😂

He chose his wedding band and I chose my wedding band. I paid for his and he paid for mine. Unless he specifically wants the wedding band to be a surprise I would just let him choose what he’s comfortable wearing, since he’ll have to wear it for the rest of his life.

H picked his own "good" ring - neither of us had any idea what he liked until we went to the store. He wears a silicone ring to work and I just ordered that on amazon.

We went to the jewelers together to shop for both of our rings! I definitely would not have wanted to surprise him because he needed to be able to try various rings on his finger to see what he liked

I never heard of the wedding bands being a surprise. I thought it was normal for the couple to go together and pick out the wedding bands. My fiance and I are going together for our bands. We are having mine made due to the fact that my engagement ring was his grandmothers and it's very hard to find a band that will fit perfectly with it.

He picked his out. He has never worn jewelry, so I wanted to make sure it was something he would actually be comfortable with wearing every day. We didn't really do the "you pay for mine and I pay for yours" thing. We started to combine finances during the engagement, so it seemed silly to say who's money is who's when it all went into a joint account anyway 🤷‍♀️.

This is a great question. I hadn't even thought about whether it should be a surprise or not. I know that my fiance is complicated (although he says he's easy to please Smiley winking ). So I was just set for him to be a part of the process of picking out his ring. But I'm a romantic so surprising him would be kinda sweet...unless he doesn't like it LOL.
