Grooms Ring- Surprise or Not?

Is the grooms ring supposed to be a surprise to him? Are you all waiting to let him see it, or does he see it when you get it? I'm just curious, didn't know what is " traditional" or what others do?

Neither my groom nor I had any idea what he wanted in a ring until we shopped for bands together. Was not a surprise and no “I bought his he bought mine” for us, just did it together

The ring wasn't really a surprise, but I did surprise him by finding a company that makes weddings bands using wood from his favorite whisky cask. Smiley smile I did buy it for him.

I surprised him with his ring. Once I received it I was to excited to wait so I showed him and he loved it so much he is wearing it before the wedding.

We choose rings individually, but they must be in pairs.

Originally, FH and I were going to pick our rings out together. But his grandfather recently passed and he was gifted his wedding ring. It just has to be resized! But in either case, it wasn't a surprise.

You likely have already found your answer but for future readers....
I think it is sweet to have it be a surprise - to an extent. Each couple is different. Some have the same taste, others don’t, and communication is key. I wanted my ring to be a surprise but I still made sure to communicate certain details that were really important to me. As someone said above, it’s something you’ll have and wear forever so you want to like it. But that being said I find it odd the bride’s ring can be a surprise but not the grooms? Personally, my fiancé and I have talked about his taste in rings so I know exactly what I’m shopping for and what he wants. But the fact I will be purchasing the ring and giving to him before right before the wedding will be a fun surprise!
