Groom's Wedding Ring Cost

I hate to ask this personal of a question, but I was wondering what everyone has paid, or is looking to pay, for their groom's wedding band. We've seen a couple that we've liked, but seem rather expensive, but for all we know those could be average-sized. We've looked all over online trying to...

We've seen a couple that we've liked, but seem rather expensive, but for all we know those could be average-sized. We've looked all over online trying to compare pricing, but I was just curious as to what everyone thought.

The one FH is set on is $410 from Blue Nile. Its a 14k yellow gold band with a very subtle design. My ring is yellow gold and he wanted them to be the same metal.

FHs was $300- ish but I got it 50% off. The jewelry store (small, local store) was getting ready for a huge sale that started the next week but the owner credited us the sale early since she knows FHs family.

His band was $30 for a black tungsten band from King's Will on Amazon. If you are interested in tungsten, it is usually way overpriced in jewelry stores when you can get the same thing for a lot less online. His band is really great and simple, would definitely recommend that particular store on Amazon! There are a lot of good options on Etsy, too.

The one FH likes is $250, and the one I like is $500. Luckily the one he likes is cheaper! We haven't really dug deep into looking at bands yet. It is going to depend on where you buy it, the materials it is made of and if it has diamonds in it or not. FH claims he doesn't want a tungsten or titanium ring because they can't be easily cut off in the case of an emergency with a swollen finger for example and they would have to amputate your finger. Several jewelers have confirmed this but I feel like there has to be some way for them to cut it off without amputating a finger?! I love the look of them but I guess if FH wants a different ring then it is his ring he can have whatever.

We're budgeting $50-200. It will probably be an alternative metal like tungsten or cobalt.

He works around chemicals and mechanical equipment a lot, so he wants an inexpensive ring that he doesn't have to worry about damaging and can be replaced easily. This makes me a little sad - I know it will upset me a bit to have the ring I put on his finger at our wedding ceremony broken/replaced by another without that sentimental value. But I'd rather replace the ring a dozen times than have him anxious about it or not wearing one out of worry.

$42...included engraving and shipping. I got it from Etsy. It just shipped. I can let you know about the quality once it's here.

ETA: I also got him a QALO ring that he'll probably end up wearing most of the time for work and the gym.

@Laine - if he wants an alternative metal that can be cut off with a normal ring cutter (like they do with gold rings), look into cobalt. It's cheap and scratch-resistant like tungsten and titanium, but malleable enough to cut and resize like gold.

We wanted matching, and I ended up buying them both off of Amazon. We went with Tungsten Carbide for now, his was $11.99 and mine was $7.99. The rings we want are dinosaur bone and meteorite, which will cost around $850 each.

There is a difference between Tungsten and Tungsten Carbide so if you do happen to have a problem with nickel be aware. Most places use those interchangeably.

I bought FH a $350 tungsten carbide ring from a jeweler...lifetime warranty, really great looking. Then I bought him a $14 tungsten carbide ring from Amazon ("fake" for our honeymoon)...lifetime warranty, really great looking.

All jewelry is overpriced, especially diamonds, so if you want to be cost conscious you can still find high quality things on Amazon, Etsy, etc. There's just some sort of weird attitude about "if you paid $13 on Amazon you don't really care about his ring." Well, the $14 one we bought is also pretty great lol. I was going to steal it as a RHR after the honeymoon until I realized that no way will his 9.5 EVER fit on my 6.5 finger. Sadness. lol.
