Groomsmen attire: green suits, send help!

Bailey, on August 3, 2022 at 11:59 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

We are having a fall wedding next October. We've booked everything: dotted our i's, crossed our t's. We did everything early so we could save up for the remaining deposits due next July without stress. So far, everything has been easy and perfect EXCEPT finding groomsmen suits.

My bridesmaids (6) are wearing 3 different colors: terracotta, rust, and "english rose" all from Azazie if anyone needs a reference. Basically just mostly dark, earthy fall tones. We really think olive or forest green would look incredible, but we can't find anything, anywhere.

The only site I found was Hockerty, and we are not going to spend $500 on a suit, nor ask his groomsmen to do that either. We're fine with renting or buying, but simply cannot find ANY green that isn't costume-y.

Etsy and Amazon are not it for us. I did find one on ASOS but they cycle stuff out so much, I don't want a groomsmen or two to wait until next year (considering how early we are) and the suit be gone. We have a backup color of dark blue if need be, but I'd really like to try my best at green first! Anybody have any ideas?!

    Hey Bailey,

My fiance is renting an emerald tux from The Black Tux. It's like a lovely dark jade color, which is much less in your face than I expected "emerald" to be. It's definitely not olive or forest green, but I think he looks amazing it in. We're keeping the greens in our arrangements very green, like ruscus, so they'll go with the vibrancy of his tux. Versus using something more sage colored.

Blue is a great back-up color, because you know it'll be available next year. Best of luck!

Honestly that sounds like a lot of color for just one bridal party. I would go with a more neutral color rather than adding yet another color to the mix. You're already have your girls wear three different colors.

I appreciate that! While there are 3 different colors in the bridal side, they're quite dark, pair well with a lot of other colors! Also, in person they're very cohesive.

It may also be worth saying, that our florals + reception + ceremony will be very neutral. I was thinking of having the groomsmen wear neutral and only FH wearing green, but he really wants all green!

Here's an inspo pic of the bridal party to help visualize! Ours are a bit darker than theirs, though.

This is a GORGEOUS color, and very affordable! If I can't find a more forest-y color, I think we may go with this one! Thank you so much!

I'm trying to say this as nicely as possible but to me that looks very distracting so as a guest I personally would be looking more at the bridal party than the bride and groom.

But if you guys are set on green, I would recommend seeing if any local tux/suit places might have what you are looking for as the bigger places tend to have just the basic colors like black, blue, and gray.

Don't worry, you won't offend me! I appreciate your point of view very much! We have a dark blue identified at a local Mens Warehouse, so at least we have that if all else fails! Thanks for your input Smiley heart

I hope it works out. And hopefully if you end up having to go with Men's Warehouse that your experience is better than ours. I will say husband had a great experience with Black Tux, which is where the emerable tux another poster shared is from, when he was a groomsman in his best friend's wedding.

My fiance demanded green, so I get the struggle. haha But he's going to be the only one in it (another demand lol). The groomsmen are wearing gray. This was one of the only ones I could find, and the only one available for rental, and thankfully, it was exactly what he wanted.

Your color combos sound lovely and I think will look excellent together.

Indochino has some under $500: Indochino

I know olive green suits are popular in Italy. Maybe you can find a local suitmaker who can order fabric?

I’d check out generation tux. They can do purchase or rentals for 2 piece and 3 piece suits, and full tux. Everything is customizable. Costs were $150 and up

@Grace, thank you so much Smiley smile

@Heather, I actually ordered a swatch from SuitShop to see what the green looks like in the sun! It's a bit darker than what we had envisioned but a green is better than no green!

@Michelle: we actually loved the Indochino suits but the price point was just too much to ask of the groomsmen, we are getting married destination and the cost of attending alone is already a lot Smiley atonished

@Gillian: unfortunately they don't have green! I actually emailed them to double check...desperate lmao. Thank you though!!

Honestly I would suggest just keeping an eye out and once it’s closer and you have one have all the gentlemen get it at once. Give them time to build up the budget for it or you could purchase it and have them all pay you back so that way you know they have the same suit.

We're having a jewel-tone boho wedding in the woods, so I really do like the idea of a green suit. I've found that a LOT of them are way too light or online and look like a good color until you see it in person. Has anyone come across a dark green that is a few shades under black? or even a little more on the blue side?

SuitShop has one that's just BARELY under black, and inexpensive. I'd highly rec ordering the swatch and looking at it under the sun and indoors, I think it'll be the one we use.

Thanks. The suitshop seems to have more colors than other places without going to custom made. That may help us coordinate colors between the groom's team and bride's team outfits.
