Groomswoman

2019Bride2B, on September 28, 2018 at 10:18 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11
Please help me figure out what our groomswoman should wear! We have 3 bridesmaids, 2 groomsmen, and 1 groomswoman. The bridesmaids will be in mismatched dresses. They will all be the same color, fabric, and length but each dress will be a different style. We’re thinking of sky blue from Azazie for their dresses and navy suits for the groomsmen. But we’re having trouble with what our groomswoman should wear. We of course asked her preference but she said she’d like to wear whatever we choose. My fiancé thinks she would be more comfortable in a dress because he thinks a woman in a suit would stand out among the guys but I think the opposite. If she were to wear a dress we would go with a navy dress to match the suits but I’m worried that a navy dress of a different style plus mismatched bridesmaid dresses would be too busy and look messy. I’d just like to get some other peoples opinions on it. Has anyone else had a groomswoman? What did she wear and did you have any pictures?

Hi There! I think that a navy blue dress would look the best if it matches the suits your groomsmen will wear! If she is comfortable wearing a dress, I don't think it would look "messy" at all! Here are a few photos of how other groomswomen have matched the other groomsmen in dresses!

We are going to have a groomswoman in our wedding as well. Shes wearing the same thing all of our groomsmen are going to wear. I, personally, think it would look odd to have a girl in a dress on the grooms side. Dresses for bridesmaids, suits for groomsmen (woman).

Getting married 10/20, My FH has a best woman (she is also 5 months pregnant). She is wearing a tailored womans suit jacket, a tuxedo shirt that has been darted to fit her figure, a looser, stylized tie that matches the groomsmen, and womans dress pants. Our colors are black and white so it was easier to make this work. I believe she found her jacket and pants at target. We rented the groomsman tuxes and brought her jacket along with us so we could match it the best as possible. Hope this helps, good luck!

The light blue dresses are what I’m thinking for the bridesmaids and the navy dress is something similar to what we’d have the groomswoman wear. I’ve also attached a picture of a mixed gender party wearing suits to get an idea of what I’d hope it would look like if we had her wear a suit. The picture of the wedding party in long light blue dresses and navy suits is the general look we’re going for.

Thanks! That’s sort of what I was thinking. A more tailored suit so that it still looked feminine and flattering but still a suit so she’d match the guys.

My FH has his two sisters as groomswomen. My bridesmaids are all wearing long light gray dresses of different styles and his sisters are wearing long black dresses since groomsmen are in black tuxes.

Unless she would typically choose to wear one to an event, I wouldn't ask her to wear a suit. I think a navy dress that would fit in style wise with your bridesmaids makes more sense. Also, FWIW, I'd give her a bouquet rather than a corsage. Treat her like you would the other women.

I really like it when the groomswoman matches the bridesmaids. I don’t think she should have to wear gray or navy just because she’s on the other side (unless the bms are wearing that). My bridesman will match our groomsmen.

I really like the idea of the groomswoman wearing a dress in the same color of the groomsmen. I wouldn't have her wear a suit unless she is absolutely comfortable in a suit or normally wears them. If she doesn't wear dresses then I think a suit would be fine but I'd let her add feminine touches if she chooses like jewelry etc that coordinateshe with the overall look. I don't think having her wear a navy dress would look busy or messy. The most beautiful chooses of attire in weddings are often the unexpected. I think it would look uniquely beautiful. If your FH thinks she would be more comfortable in a dress then perhaps he knows her preferences as since she's his groomswoman they have a close friendship. I think by her saying she's fine with wearing whatever you choose that's she's trying to be nice about it. If you go with Azazie for the bridesmaid dresses they have some navy dresses that are very nice. If you go with a dress for the groomswoman I'd get it in the same length of the bridesmaid dresses and in a similar style although getting it in a different style would also look great. Another option is a jumpsuit which is a fun choice that can be as elegant as you want it to be as its basically a feminine twist on a suit. I've attached some links that you might find interesting.
