Groupon for honeymoon??

Brenda, on May 26, 2015 at 1:35 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 20

So FH wants to get a good deal on Groupon for our honeymoon. I've never used Groupon to travel anywhere but I've bought stuff and I feel like it's pretty reliable. Has anyone had good or bad experiences with Groupon getaways that they could share with me? We need to book our honeymoon soon and I want to be confident we won't be stressed out doing it this way! Thanks!!

Make sure your research the hotel. I went to Myrtle Beach on a groupon. It was really nice, but I have never done any of the packages.

Because we won't be able to afford the honeymoon I really want to book. I'm thinking about doing a Groupon trip just so we go somewhere for cheap. But I will of course research the resort before booking.

I saw some good deals on all-inclusive resort vacations in Mexico, Dominican, etc. on Groupon..but after doing some research, I found some really horrible reviews and decided against it.

But I also know someone who had a great experience with a vacation package purchased through Groupon... I'd say just do as much research as you can. It's a bonus if you find reviews from other people who have purchased the same Groupon and gone on the trip. And read the fine print!

Most places that have groupons for hotels and stuff are places that are falling apart and need the business to stay open. One of my Clients at work has a son who works for groupon and he told me the trips are not worth it.

I wouldn't do Groupon for your Honeymoon because you just never know. If you do choose to go with this option, research would be key.

I've done a couple of the getaways, nothing huge or out of the country though. Mostly just b&b's or cute rustic country getaways. We've done one in Vermont and the other in New York both were really great and cute. But do your research, travel reviews are so helpful!

We've done quick weekend trips within driving distance and had a blast. I don't think I'd do it for something longer than a 3-4 hour drive, though. Definitely wouldn't spend money on airfare to go to a place unknown, especially in another country.

We've booked a few vacations through groupon actually. only one was Terrible. the others were great, I'd say to really make sure you go on tripadvisor and research the resorts.

The one we stayed at that was bad was in DR and we were treated like 3rd class citizens so I would be careful, but we have definitely found good ones too.

Thanks for your comments everyone! @Jade Do you mind me asking where you went that were great? We haven't decided on where to go and would like some recommendations!

They have really great deals sometimes! I've thought about doing this before we booked our cruise. They had an 8-day ireland trip w/ rental car, hotel, flight and some meals for $899 a person. but it's annoying that you have to fly out of certain hotels on an exact day - it's not always flexible enough to do a honeymoon type trip. But let us know how it works if you end up using something like that!

Its risk vs reward. It could get ugly so be ok with it.

I don't see the problem with it. They usually list the hotels you will be staying at so you can look up reviews just like any other hotel out there.

Do your research; the premise of Groupon is that you get a giant discount and then Groupon gets a giant fee, so the vendor gets (usually) around 1/4 of their normal fee. If you have a successful, coveted business or service, this is the last place you want to advertise.

I ordered a getaway off group on (I ended up not being able to use it because of FHs schedule and they refunded me very easily). Groupon is a great company to work with. Their customer service is fantastic. As long as you do your due diligence and research, I would say it's fine. However, I have found that if groupon offers it, they usually have deals directly through the hotel as well. Some are better than groupon, some are worse, but definitely look around.

Thank you all! I think we will do more research and also work with a Travel Agent to see what our best options are financially. FH's coworker recommended a TA to us and we will see what works best.

@Jackie I do agree that their customer service is pretty great. I have contacted them before and they respond in a timely manner.

I have always wondered about Groupon myself, afraid to use it. I have been looking on Travelocity for our honeymoon and have found you save a shit ton of money if you book all together. I want to go to Ireland for our HM and have found flight hotel, and car for less that $2000.

Do your research. I went on a trip March 2015 that I booked through the tour group itself. The other 4 people in our group of 6 had booked it with a Groupon. We ended up paying the same price because I had a promo code, but my point is that they got the same awesome trip through Groupon as I did.

My cousin and his friend went to Ireland on a groupon package and he was it was awesome and would do it again. I would look up resorts on tripadvisor that you are interested in and see what the reviews and pictures look like. Also, make sure you read the fine print and see what's included.

@Alyssa thanks that's really helpful! I think since we want to go to a beach resort Groupon seems very doable for us and seems to be offering what we would like. FH is doing some research today and will update you all on what we decide!

My husband and I have done Groupon trips and love them, I just always look up the reviews for the hotels beforehand.

And if you need any wedding help, let me know! My team and I offer planning and styling packages of all shapes and sizes.
