I've been worried about people being underdressed for the wedding, particularly my American guests versus the Spaniards.

Over here they dress VERY formally compared to Americans, period. Men always wear dark suits or tuxes, ladies wear short cocktail dresses with fascinators for day weddings and evening gowns at night. No exception.

I'm worried that my US guests will seem underdressed in comparison. Since it's an evening wedding in a hotel ballroom is IS more formal and I can maybe see people wearing cocktail dresses but the Spanish will be in full evening wear. Am I overthinking this? Any suggestions on how to handle this?

Mrs.Cheapskate- The wedding is in the US! So I could also go the other route and tell the Spaniards they can dress down some. But like I said, they don't really dictate dress codes for weddings because all weddings are formal events to them, and they do short cocktail dresses for day weddings and long for night. Like, they'd never wear a casual sundress or slacks and a shirt to a wedding, which in the US could be fine.

Didn't think you were going to! Just saw a few other posters mention you should, so i was more talking to them than you. I think this is one of the area's you're stressing that will all work out fine. Just think, if this is your biggest planning problem right now you're doing alright

E=mc2- You're right lol. I'm (fortunately) ahead of schedule in terms of a lot of planning stuff so little details like this come to mind more often.

Does everyone already know where the reception is taking place. As I begin my new hunt for a venue I like to look at the pictures of previous weddings. I like the more formal look as well. If I see a ton of pictures of women in summer or cocktail dresses the venue loses points. See what kind of photos are on your venue's website. If I were a guest I would look at the venue's website to see what to wear.

Precious- It's a hotel ballroom, so it definitely lends to mote formality. There are pictures of the ballroom itself on the website, not sure about actual weddings though.

ETA: I hear you about places losing points for looking too informal. A venue I had a love affair with online looked MUCH tok casual in person...no thanks!
