Guest book attendant?

Colleen, on October 8, 2017 at 8:54 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

I just asked a friend to be a guest book attendant. Do people still do this? The friend I asked had one at her wedding last weekend. The main reason I asked is because we had a board made with a quote for our guest book and I bought paint pens for people to sign it with. The first time I used paint pens in my classroom I didn't think they were the easiest to use and I didn't want that to be a reason for people not to sign.

I asked my cousin mainly because I wanted her to feel included and she wasn't interested in being a BM. She's mainly a door greeter in my case

ETA: Mine is only attending at the ceremony. I think that's ok, because she still gets to enjoy the day as a guest once everyone is seated. Kind of like the ushers. If you want her at the guest book all through the reception, I'd follow the ideas of other posters and say maybe don't.

I didn't have one, but if she's ok with it and you want it, why not?

That sounds kind of boring to me. Instead of enjoying the reception she has to stand by the guest book and help people with the pens?

If you're worried about the pens being difficult, is there something else you could use? Or maybe have a test block nearby so people can practice? I think if she had one, and she agreed to be yours, than it is fine. I'm not sure how long they normally stand around, I've never been to a wedding with one, but if maybe make sure she knows she can leave after so long/cocktail hour/whatever.

Not a fan, and some might see it as more insulting than not being asked to be a bridesmaid at all. The whole guest book attendant thing was razzed on an episode of Sex and the City: http://www.televisionofyore.com/recaps-of-sex-and-the-city/sex-and-the-city-season-2-episode-7

Nah, I think this is more insulting than not being asked to do anything at all.

No. A guest book doesn't need an attendant.

If a table can do it, don't make a person

She married FH's best friend last weekend, and our wedding is next weekend. I didn't expect to be in her wedding and she offered to help with ours. She lives out of town and will be coming in with her husband who is in the wedding.

I guess I had a different idea for her. Its a catholic ceremony and the reception is a different location. The guest book will be with the place cards for the seating chart. Maybe I will just ask her to get the pens working and every now and then keep an eye on them so the tips don't dry out.

I asked FH's cousins to do it. Too old to be flower girl/ ring bearer (12&14), not really into being Jr BM/GM. They welcomed everyone pre-ceremony, we had a non traditional guest book so they helped with that, and they helped people find their escort cards. They were thrilled to be part of the wedding, and got to enjoy the reception as guests.

Sounds super boring, I would not have an attendant - there's no need for one

I asked 3 of our friends to help us with our alternative guest book and also to keep an eye on our gifts and card box.

I hired someone to do this and keep an eye on the card box at the same time. I have a instant photo book so someone needs to take the pics for the guests. I borrowed a camera from a friend who I seated next to the table to help if there were issues. She was fine with it. I made it clear she was not a guest book attendant though.

I think it was nice of her to offer to help. And if that's where you feel you need help, then use her there. It's a maybe 45 minute task and then she gets to enjoy the rest of the evening.

No, I've never seen this at any wedding I've ever attended. Most people can figure things out but if you're concerned maybe your friend can set up the pens so they're ready to go with paint in the tips and help the first few guests sign. It shouldn't be too difficult to figure out.
