Guest Book / Puzzle??

Jennifer, on September 7, 2012 at 12:07 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 15

Hi Ladies -

I saw something on Pinterest recently that sparked my interest (and I can't get to Pinterest here at work, so I can't find it now). It was a cute idea for a Puzzle, rather than a guest book. Each guest would sign a puzzle piece, then it could be framed, etc after the wedding or shower. I mentioned this to my sister, who loved the idea for my shower (or maybe the wedding - who knows!).

Problem is - I don't know where to find one that won't break the bank. I found one on Etsy that is over $200 for a 75 piece blank puzzle - which just seems pretty high to me. Any other thoughts on where to look?

So, you are just showing the WOOD side of the puzzle right? There is no image on it What so ever????

Did you try your local Dollar Tree? Why not get a Random wood puzzle and have people sign it? I got one for my son that is only 25 pieces big and the pieces are Really nice and sturdy. Check in the kids section. Once it is mounted, it won't matter what is on the back, right?

(Or if it really bothers you, you could probably mod podge something over the image it comes with and use and exacto knife to cut the puzzle apart again.)

*** Tell us how it works out

Hi Hayley - I didn't even think about dollar tree. I kept thinking I needed to get a large puzzle with 100 pieces - I didn't think about getting a few smaller ones that can be mounted together!

I had thought about getting one that was either plain white, or plain wood color. finding some small blank puzzles might not be too hard either - especially since I have 9 months to find them :-)

Cute idea! I'd say for wooden puzzles to expect $200+ since the cutting would be time consuming for anyone selling it. (and wood is heavy which also jacks up shipping costs.)

But you could do something similar with a blank cardboard puzzle (easier for guests to write on than wood, and also easier to find a frame for and hang, down the road.)

I have an etsy shop set up to do wedding stationery work for brides looking for unique wedding items - www.etsy.com/shop/CMSStationery - and could do a personalized cardboard one (250 pieces - 10x14 inches) for you for $65, if you decide to go in that direction.

Or if you wanna be super quirky, you could do something like this: http://www.areyougame.com/interact/item.asp?itemno=PD1418 - get a "Puzzled" puzzle of a place / animal / figure that fits your theme? Those are less than $20 mostly. Good luck!

    So, you need 75 pieces?

You can always just go to a puzzle upload site, and upload a blank image or your monogram or something.

    $40 plus shipping?

I don't even know if that is the best price out there.

or walgreens makes puzzles? Just google "make your own puzzle" and find one with the best deal!

I found this from a quick google search. I am not too familiar with the website, so do your research. This one is $7.14, but looks like it is backordered.

I'm so sorry! I misread the thread and thought you were looking for the one on pinterest. I didn't realize you were looking for a different one! (Just goes to show you should always read the whole thread!)

Jeez, I thought my googling skills were pretty good. Guess they're not up to par!

I was googling Blank Puzzles - and I even checked VP and Zazzle to see if they had good ones, but VP didn't, and Zazzle's wasn't clear enough for searching, so I gave up.

I just need to see how big each piece is, and make sure its big enough for writing. I wouldn't want to have something so small that all people can sign is their name. Then I'd still need a more traditional guest book or something else. I'd like them to at least have a small place for a comment.

    You guys are the best!!!

How big do the pieces need to be? Do you guests to just sign their name or have room to write a message? The one I posted on amazon is 21"x15", and by the picture has 10 columns and 7 rows. This would have the pieces be approx 2.1" x 2.1". I think that would be ok?

The puzzles with bigger peices tend to also have less pieces (like toddler puzzles)

@Sara - I think the one you found on Amazon is just about perfect. I read somewhere (I think attached to the Pinterest board that Lindsay posted earlier), that they recommend to get enough for about 70% of your guests. So assuming I have 150, then I'd really need 105 - but considering I think couples will mostly write together, I think that drops the number significantly. I like the toddler pieces, since they're a bit bigger, but I wouldn't want to have something that took up an entire walll. I guess I need to think this through, and then go through Amazon or see what Dollar Tree has that will work....but now I have a GREAT start thanks to you guys!!
