Guest Book - Writing on Wood Slab

Aly, on July 22, 2021 at 3:45 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 7

Hi ladies,

one of our friends is making our guest book out of a wooden slab. What type of markers or pens should I get for guests to use?

Thank you in advance

Hi! We have wooden hearts for our guest book. I purchased fine tip acrylic pens on Amazon! Smiley smile

It's going to depend on how the wood is treated/sealed. You might ask the friend if they can provide you with a small sample of wood with the same finish and/or if they can finish the backside of the slab the same as the front. Daughter & SIL's "guestbook" was signed Jenga blocks. We took one to Michael's (ours has a huge display of different types of markers, with "testers" available). We tested a bunch of them to find some that worked best. Sharpies tended to bleed into the grain.

Thank you! Yeah, I have heard that about wood. Maybe I should ask him what his plan is first and go from there. Thank you!

Good plan! You'll probably also want to test various tips to find the one that is easiest to read. Daughter found she had to go with an "ultra-fine tip" so whatever the guests wrote was legible on a Jenga block. I don't remember which pens she ended up choosing, but some bled, others took too long to dry -- potentially resulting in smeared ink on the blocks. Like Goldilocks, she tried a bunch until she found the ones that were "just right"! Smiley winking She also bought 4 or 5 of them, so there were plenty for guests to use even if someone inadvertently walked away with a pen.
