Guest count to gifts on registry count?

Annie & Javi, on November 5, 2014 at 12:56 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 13

How many guests are you inviting and how many gifts are you registering for?

We are inviting around 85 guests, we registered for about 200 gifts, with a wide variety of price points. Wondering if this too much?

We invited 260 (around 125 households) and between 2 registries had about 90 items. (We are both combining a lot of stuff that is still new so we don't need much.)

We were told 2 gifts per households but it depended on what the price was. If you have small kitchen items that are $5-10 most people will buy more than one of those items and give them together. I think yours is decent, gives people a lot of options and I assume there are smaller items on there.

I have 220 for 100ish people. It's all stuff we need or are upgrading. I wasn't trying to hit a number.

Invited 145 (including a few kids), 100 attended. We registered for about 150 gifts.

Cash is more common in our circle. I don't think it hurts to have extras on there as long as they are all things you would actually want.

Most places you register at give you a "guide" or suggestion for how many gifts to register for...and from what I've seen its suggested to register for twice the number of gifts than you have guests. So if you are inviting 200 guests then you should register for 400 gifts.

But also take the cost of gifts into factor too...Personally, I usually spend $100 on a shower gift (more if its a close friend or family that I actually like). I always try to find something thats right in that price range and buy it...if I can't then I will buy two things that total to that cost. But I know some people who LOVE to buy all the cooking utensils, kitchen towels, S&P shakers and things like that and make gift baskets to give...those people and their creativity make me sick.

You'll want to register for a wide variety. Remember you still have the bridal shower, at which you'll get gifts plus the wedding.

I don't think it's so much the number you register for, but more so the range of prices. I saw this once:

-30-50% of the total items on your registry: Under $25

-20-40% of the total items on your registry: Between $25 - $50

-10-20% of the total items on your registry: Between $50 - $100

-5-15% of the total items on your registry: Between $100 - $200

-5-15% of the total items on your registry: Over $200

Macy's registry website tells you to register for twice as many gifts as you have guests invited ... so 100 guests = 200 gifts ... keeping in mind that a gift is one item, so four towels is four items ... since lots of people purchase multiples like that and some go in together on one item, it all evens out. We had 160 invited and registered for about 250 items.

I think that seems like a good number. Even with a lot of options and a lot of price points we still had a number of guests who bought off registry though. I think the main things to keep in mind are - are you registered with at least one big box store (Macy's, Target, etc.) and do you have plenty of gifts at each price point so your guests can easily choose something in their budget?

Wow I guess our registry was small. We invited 75, registered for about 35 items.

We have 100 guests and registered for 40 items. Honestly most of them we don't even need. I am a firm believer in "less is more" and don't like to have a lot of items around that don't get used often, so maybe that's why. We might add a few more things on in a month or so (once FH gets a chance to go to the store and look haha).

We're inviting around 220 (hoping for about 180) and have about 250 gifts between two registries. At the time I felt like that was a lot, but I didn't think about the fact that we did request multiples of certain items.

My guest list is 250 so I was told at Macy's that I need around 350 items on my list. I have about 250 between BBB and Macy's. I feel like it's a lot but we have multiples of certain items.
