Guest heart drop box frame- what pen/marker to use?

Katelynn, on May 16, 2017 at 8:29 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 12

I tried a fine tip sharpie and it bled bad. I don't want to paint the hearts I want to keep them natural. What is the best pen or market for unfinished wood that won't bled. Thank you!

I don't know myself, but I'd head to a craft store and ask around their staff. I'd bet there are special pens or paint pens for writing on wood.

I would think a paint pen would be best? I don't have much experience personally but from what I've seen they don't bleed much

Without sealing the wood, a paint pen would be your best bet, although they can be finicky. I would go with sealing the hearts with a matte clear coat, which would also help protect them from other things as well, and then you could use the fine tipped sharpies without a problem.

We just used the ultra fine sharpies and didn't have a problem. Let me see if I can find a picture.

You need an oil based paint pen, not just a regular paint pen for writing on wood. They are a bit more expensive (around $3-4/ one) and they sell them at Michael's or other craft stores.

I agree about the paint pen, but make sure you have lots of extras. I went to a wedding where they did the "guest book" with river rocks that you put into a vase. They had 2 paint pens and both broke after maybe 5 people signed... No one could find anybody to ask if there were any more, so the majority of the guests didn't get to sign.

ETA: as a former Michael's employee I'd advise using the 40 or 50% off coupons. You can only use 1 per customer, per day, but it'll save you a good deal of money.

Have you tried a sharpie pen? Not an actual sharpie.. sharpie makes a sharpie pen and I use them all the time on all kinds of stuff and they usually don't bleed.

Have you tried Micron pens? As an artist this is my go to pen as it won't bleed on paper.
