Guest List - Kids or No Kids

Halie, on June 13, 2020 at 4:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

Hey all!

I have asked this question before, but after reading A TON of information on here (thank you ladies), we put down a deposit on an entirely different venue than we orginally planned! We are super laid back people so we decided to get married on Lake Austin Riverboats. Children are welcome.

I'm concerned about the concept of once the riverboat has disembarked, you can't get off the boat for 2.5 hours. Guests will be stuck. Also, a majority of the guests will be driving from Houston. (Everyone is totally okay with this. I checked in advance for the people we absolutely have to have there!) I was leaning towards leaving it up to the parents, but I also don't want a total meltdown to happen while cruising. I don't know what the younger kids could do for entertainment outside of dance with us. Our son will be the most likely to have a meltdown as he will be 2 by the time we are married.

Also, we will be providing a full meal, cake, dessert bar, and open bar.

Suggestions? What would you do?

Halie

I would notify all guests of this information and maybe suggest those with kids that there will not be kid-friendly entertainment and to plan accordingly. Ultimately their kids so if melt downs happen the parents need to deal with that. I would maybe specifically reach out to those with kids informing them of that too.

I agree I think if they know that then they’d decide if they wanna bring their kids or not. You can provide some activity and coloring books if there are kids

Kids are generally able to entertain themselves when they aren't dancing so I honestly wouldn't worry about it.

I’d make it no kids allowed. This is pretty common at weddings actually, and youre right about kids being stuck on a boat for hours not being the best situation. It also could get very loud with kids in a small space lol

I agree with Leah, I would personally opt for no kids due to the confined space on a boat situation. Your son is obviously an exception, and nobody would bat an eye to this

We provided a babysitter at the venue, but mostly the kids danced or entertained themselves. It's really a matter of if you want them around.

I think anyone seeing that it will be on a boat will realize they may be stuck on there for a bit.
