Guest names on table at the reception?

Ololufe, on May 10, 2016 at 6:20 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 8

I'm planning on doing a assigned table poster/sign/frame by alphabetical order. The poster will be at the door for people to check which table they are assigned to. My mom wants me to do a separate list on each table stating which guests are on that table. I'm guessing on card stock. Has anyone heard of this before? Is this a new thing? Is it helpful? Is it weird? I have never heard of such before.

It sounds redundant and might clutter up the table. That said, if you want it, it doesn't sound like it could really hurt.

It absolutely sounds redundant. Her reasoning is if people forget their numbers between the door and the hall (how idk) or misread their number and sit at the wrong table they can confirm they are at the right table when they get to the table.

Very unnecessary. Why tell them twice? If they forget, they will just go back to the poster to find it again. Sounds like extra time and money that you can save.

Its not necessary, we had a seating chart that was in the drink reception area. The hotel also did up booklets that had the seating plans and left them on the tables in the drinks reception area. There was then another seating chart outside the door of the banquet room. Everyone found their seat! Most weddings I have been to, only have had one chat outside the door of the room with the table numbers/ tables names on them with the guests names on each table. There is never any trouble with people finding their tables. Our seating chart consisted of cards that the hotel stuck onto big mirrors for us, each card had the table number and the guests names who were seated at that table. I then just did up matching table numbers with a similar design for each table.

I think that would be redundant.

I was thinking about doing the poster too but someone on here advised me not to because it may be a lot of people clustered to figure out their seat. I also want to make it easier for the dietary restrictions to show in place cards. Just something to keep in mind!
