Guest taking home centerpieces?

Mrs. G, on September 20, 2018 at 12:36 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 34

In my culture the guests will take home centerpieces after an event. However I refuse to do that! I worked too hard and spent so much money for them to just be taken lol.

Are you letting guests take home the centerpieces?

Lol. My family is used to doing this also, but the vases are rented, so I'm gonna have the DJ make an announcement. It'll be weird, but whatever gotta do it.

Have the DJ make an announcement and put a note on the table under where the centerpieces go. Have someone watch for guests leaving with them at the end of the night. That's pretty much all you can do.

I don't think it's a cultural thing - every wedding I've been to gave away the centerpieces. Of course, I let my guests take them. What do you think you're going to do with all those centerpieces after the wedding? If you want one as a keepsake, make sure the one at your table is held aside for you so no one takes it. If you're having a sweetheart table and not having a centerpiece, just make an extra one to keep.

I decorated votives, 3 for each table, and have a small decorated vase that will have a few fresh flowers in it for every table. And yes, I am letting my quest take them

Most of the weddings I photographed the centerpieces were sent home with guests. What are you going to do with them all? Yes they can be pricey but realistically what can you do with them?

Also common amongst my family/friends but it's going to be a no from me. I literally spent days making my centerpieces, and I cut down a freaking tree so that I could have wood rounds for the base of my centerpieces. I'm selling everything when I'm done, and just having the dj make an announcement that they can't be taken.

My daughter had bunches of real hydrangeas as her centerpieces. They were hand tied so that guests could take them without taking the rented vases. I second firstoneat56 in wondering what are you going to do with them afterwards. Maybe you're going to try and sell them?

I think I’m going to let my guests take them. Most of the items on the centerpiece will be provided by me, with the exception of the votive candles. So i would have to make an announcement telling everyone to leave the candle holders please so I don’t get charged lol. Anything left over though, I think I will be taking to the assisted living home that my grandparents live in. Why do I need 20 centerpieces worth of flowers?? I’ll probably try to keep some of the chargers though, so I can give them to another bride or maybe try to sell them.

What are your centerpieces going to look like? I'm honestly hoping my guests take mine, so it's one less thing I'll have to deal with afterwards. I can't imagine finding a use for them after the wedding.

I am on the other end of the spectrum! I hope my guests take them! I don't need 36 vases with custom daisies!

I hadn't ever heard of this (or been to a wedding that did it) until these forums! So I'm not too worried about someone taking ours haha!

Okay! See I didn’t know that! I put that my culture does that because I don’t want to speak for everyone else. Lol...I know some people rent their centerpieces but personally for me I plan on reselling a few and some I will reuse around my house. I’m not having a huge wedding so it’s not like I’m going to have a ton of centerpieces just a few. 😊

Our centerpieces were fresh garlands so we took those home to use during the rest of the holidays. But we had some small floral decor and potted Christmas trees on our accent tables that we let guests take home the next day after the brunch.

We gave parts of our centerpieces away. The vases with the flowers and the small potted succulents we used mostly. Neither my mom or I wanted the plants to go to waste and personally we didn't want to deal with the hassle of trying to sell them. We did keep the book page wrapped candles we made as some keepsakes, but gave a couple away to people who wanted them as well.

I have never been to wedding where they take centerpieces home. I will be really upset if someone takes one, because I’m borrowing/ renting most of my decor.

I am letting my guest take mine. In fact I am going to plead to them that they do! Lol! I do not want all of them at my house afterwards!

Yeah definitely not letting guests take mine. I have never been to a wedding where this happens. I plan to sell pretty much everything.
