Guestbook Bench

Stefanie, on July 11, 2014 at 9:41 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 10

While pinterest-ing, I found the idea for a guestbook bench. I love the idea! The bench part is done (thanks to my handy cousin), but I am not sure what to give guests to sign with. Is a standard permanent marker the best choice? EDIT: Also, if I wanted to superimpose our names and wedding date (see comment picture below), how would I do it?

A fine tipped permanent marker will probably work best. That's what I'm using for my wooden letter M guestbook. Just make sure you shellac the bench after the wedding so that the signatures don't rub off. Also, you may want to create some sort of signage about guests being careful not to smudge while signing.

I would use permanent markers. You can get some in your wedding colors. They even have silver and white I believe. Just be sure they show up on that type wood, A-okay, first. If you have any left over wood or something to try it out--that'd be good. Cool Idea Smiley smile

This is what I want to do and then put it by our campfire pit in the backyard after. I'm going to go with permanent markers (most likely just black) and then varnish after to protect from the outdoor elements.

I have a guest board (made of wood) for my guest book. the wood is unfinished, and the seller of the shop said that a regular fine point sharpie would work. after everything is done and signed, just spray over it with a clear coat of poly paint and it will protect everything.

Thanks for all the feedback! My bench is currently plain and does not have our names or wedding date. I love that idea! I'm not sure how I would do that myself.

We were considering this option too. Such a neat thing to do and it will have a place in your future house. Smiley smile

I know this is an old thread, but does anyone know if you can use a bench that is already finished and have people sing it, and then add another coat of clear finish? Or does the bench have to be unfinished wood?
