Guestbook canvas print , what type of pens to use?

Our guest book is a canvas print of one of our engagement photos, trying to figure out what pen would be best to use when having our guests sign

This might sound kind of extra, but I would purchase a small canvas from Michael's or Hobby Lobby and test out various pens on it to see which one you like! I'm picky about the way pens look/write and for something like your guest book, I think it's worth doing a little research!

Agree with Caytlyn. But will add to find out if there is a coating on the print and if so test the pens on canvas also treated with the same coating. I would also test and then seal if you plan on doing so and hang the canvas in the area you plan on displaying the guestbook for as long as possible to see if sunlight changes it. I tested a pen by making an art piece for my fiancee for our dating anniversary last year - and the rest of the design (melted crayons) needed to be coated to make sure it stayed the way I wanted it. In less than a year the color had changed pretty drastically. I'm going to get a couple smaller canvases and retest without the coating/sealant to see if that was what caused the discoloration - putting the tests in equal sun situations.

    Hello Pham!

I think the PPs have wonderful ideas! Since it is going to be a keepsake from your wedding, it might be worth being extra cautious and checking out some different pen styles! I've read that Sharpie paint pens work very well on canvases! Maybe test those out and see how it goes?!

We also have a canvas as our guestbook - but it's a painting, not a photo. Same idea though! As an artist, I naturally had some small canvas panels hanging out in the house and did the trial with different pens & markers. We ended up going with a pack of metallic sharpie markers. They showed up better than regular sharpies, but were quicker to dry than the paint pen markers. And once the wedding is over, to make sure nothing fades, I'm going to seal my canvas like I would seal any other of my paintings. Hope this helps!

Michaels and AC Moore are your best friend's. Haha I think we're doing Sharpie Pens because of how clean they write, but we're using postcards. I would definitely do a couple tests first since it is on canvas. Some pens don't translate well on them.

Hey guys. So we did a canvas for our wedding where the first signed it. How does one seal it to protect the markers from fading? Thank you
