Guestbook - How much is "reasonable" to spend on it?

Danielle, on January 6, 2013 at 4:24 PM Posted in Planning 0 19

I am considering purchasing a guestbook from www.guestbookstore.com but it is going to cost me just under $100 incl shipping. I was at a wedding this past summer that did their guestbook through here and it was very fun to fill out but now I am thinking that is a ridiculous amount of money to spend on a guestbook? Thoughts?

I think $100 for the guest book alone is a little crazy, I sell 7 piece sets for around that price!

Go to Hobby Lobby when the wedding stuff is 50% off. Not this week I just checked. Many people have other things to sign, frames, mats, etc.

I am in Canada so no Hobby Lobby for me. The actual cost of the book is only around $60 but being in Canada the shipping is $35 alone.

You can find guest books way cheaper then that if you keep looking around.

Oh wow, i did check out that site and can kind of see why it is a little big more money. i guess because you can customize it and the actual pages have more things you can do on there. if its something you really like and can afford to purchase, i say go for it. you will always have this to look back on!! if you need help with more suggestions for guest books feel free to message/email me =)

In my opinion, $10 is enough. Ask around-- who looks through their guestbook years after the wedding?

That seems like bit much. I haven't even really looked at ours! We did the fingerprint tree---so glad we did that! We got a frame and love it!! Looking back, I'm glad we only spent 20 bucks for it on amazon.

A guestbook is one of the very few items that you in fact keep after the wedding. So if you love it, have an idea how to display it, and can afford it, why not?

I don't particularly care for the guestbooks, but the photo matte is displayed in our home. So yes, we do see it regularly.

We spent around $15 for the book/pen/stand. So glad we didn't spend more because it's just sitting in a box somewhere. We DID read through it once, during our honeymoon. Other than that, it was kind of useless. :-)

I did the same thing that "Future Mrs. B". I created a book at shutterfly.com. I created an account with David's Bridal and they sent me a $20 coupon. With shipping it cost me $14. So far I showed it to my mom and future MIL and they loved it.

If its something you really love go for it. Otherwise, check locally to see if you can find something less expensive. There are a lot of different ideas on pinterest. What about getting a bottle of your favorite wine or champagne and having your guests sign it? You can drink it for your 1 year anniversary, and then use the bottle as a vase on special occasions or a bookend on a shelf.

Hey thanks all for the feedback, I have seen the light haha and will not be spending $100 on the guestbook. However, I had shown the idea to my bridal party and they are currently working on a DIY version of the guestbook Smiley smile

I know that realistically, once the wedding is over we will probably look through it once or twice but otherwise will probably just live in the closet forever but when I was at the wedding that did have this guestbook, it was actually a lot of fun filling out the pages and kept guests busy Smiley smile Smiley smile

I paid $65 on my guest book on Etsy. It's covered in duiponi silk and already has photo slots attached since I'm using an instant camera. I'd rather pay than have to do all of that myself. But if you have the time/energy to DIY, or someone else to do it, I say go for it!

WOW I think that is super ridiculous! I personally prefer the unique guestbooks. Such as puzzle pieces, the thumb print trees, ornaments ect... You can find things like that on Etsy for around $20 or less, or buy cheap supplies and make your own.

We are doing a guestbook quilt and spending less than $15!

Honestly, as someone who has gone before you, do not spend $100 on a guest book.

In a year, two or three, you will not look at it again. It will be packed away in a box and forgotten.

For my daughters wedding, I did scrapbook pages. They are now in a photo album, if you will. Friends of mine did a canvas and had guests sign it, they then had it matted and framed.

    Many other great ideas.

My aunt and uncle gave me a matted picture frame for the wedding I'm going to pick up some nice colorful pens to use for signing... they picked it up at Michael's (I'm in Winnipeg so I understand the frustration of stupid large shipping costs)
