Guests Traveling to Wedding

Krystal, on January 2, 2020 at 5:38 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

Hey ladies! I am getting married where I live, in Vegas. Most family/friends are coming from California. Do you suggest I try and block hotels out or just let people choose where they want to stay?

I'd get at least two complimentary hotel blocks. One nicer hotel & one more affordable hotel. As a guest, we like to stay where the bride & groom, family, wedding party, etc. are staying in case we run into them or go to welcome parties, rehearsal dinner, etc. together.

I agree with PP. We had a DW and did a room block and everyone stayed there because they wanted to be with us.

How does it typically work? Is the Bride and Groom responsible for the payment upfront or are there options?

Get a block if you can. They usually offer a better rate and if people don’t want to stay there they don’t have to

There are two types of room blocks: some require a deposit and/or charge you (the bride/groom) a fee for the rooms that aren't booked, and courtesy blocks are free for you to hold and any rooms not booked about a month out will be released to the public by the hotel. I recommend setting up the courtesy block as PPs have said - one in a nicer hotel and one in a more affordable one, but only if courtesy blocks are available. Otherwise you could always just give hotel recommendations on your site and let your guests decide where to stay (especially if they already have hotel loyalties/points).

Most hotels will offer a free room block for a period of time then you will have to release the unused rooms or be responsible for them. Just make sure to read the contract carefully.
