Hair and Make up Vendor Disaster

Alexandra, on November 20, 2019 at 11:16 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 5

Hi, all! I need some advice on what to do after what just happened with the hair and make up artist I booked for my wedding. My wedding was 11/16/19. I reached out to her and selected her and gave her my deposit payment in July. We had our trial hair and make up done in October. We weren't completely happy, because she did not disclose the fact that her salon was in her home's basement, but the actual wedding looks were fine and it was too close to the wedding to try and find someone else. Skip forward to the week before the wedding. I make sure she has an estimated time to arrive on Saturday to start our hair, because our wedding coordinator was finalizing our timeline. The day before the wedding, I double check that she has the timeline, she does, and she says she's ready to go! A few hours later, at 7pm the night before the wedding, I get a message. "I had scheduled you and your fiancé at 7:00am. The latest I could do is 7:30am or 8:00am. I have other clients scheduled for tomorrow after your wedding. I never received a message or call from the coordinator until today at 1pm. Let me know if the time is okay. If not, I would be more than glad to reimburse you your deposit." What? I'm furious because she had agreed to the times that we set for our wedding hair, and I had booked her in July! I called the wedding coordinator, we had a new hair and make up artist within 30 minutes. Wrote back to the original vendor saying "We will not be using your services as you clearly have other priorities outsite of upholding our agreement. Given it is the night before our wedding and we are having to locate a new provider, we will contact you later regarding refunds and discussions of next steps." The problem is that the original vendor never provided a contract, and I never thought to ask for one, until it was too late. What can we do? I am for sure going to pursue getting my deposit back. Can I pursue getting the cost of my trial back? We also had to pay a lot more for someone to come on such late notice, it was double of what we were going to pay the original vendor. And I am of course going to leave her a review. Please help!

Did you have e-mail correspondence with the day and time and a cost breakdown?

I booked her through wedding wire, so yes, all of our emails are on here.

If you have her agreeing and acknowledging 7am as the start time in an e-mail, I think you have a case for getting not only the deposit back but the difference between what you would have paid and what you ended up having to pay. I’m not sure if you have any recourse in getting the trial money back because that’s a service you paid for and she performed.

You think so? I do agree on the trial. She did perform that service. But the difference between her service and what we ended up having to pay was around $300.
