Hair and Makeup -- In a Salon or On-site??

So I have been trying to decide if it would be better to go to a salon to get hair and makeup done for myself and my bridal party or if it would be better to have it done in our hotel suite (our venue doesn't have a bridal suite). Any advice?? Thanks!!

We went to the salon and had a great time. I really don’t see that it was any less easy or less convenient than if I had had someone come to us. We all had to get from the hotel to the venue anyway so the pit stop at the salon along the way really wasn’t a big deal. It’s really whatever is more comfortable to you, and potentially more affordable (if there are traveling fees for the hmuas). We also had way more mirrors and more space than if we were all in a hotel room.

I’m having them come to me at my hotel suite for me and my BM and my daughter. They only charge $20 travel fee so it’s worth it.

The last thing you want to do is run all over town getting hair and makeup done on your big day. I would say have them come to you so you can be relaxed with a bottle of champagne with your bridesmaids. It makes for cute "getting ready pics" if you're having a photographer come down.

We had HMUA come to our suite. I think this was so much easier than driving around and worrying about timing.

BUT I would say it added another level for me of making sure there were chairs, things set up well enough etc etc that I did the night before. Then when we did photos in the room there was stuff EVERYWHERE. The girls left coffee cups, champagne bottles, food and etc alllll over the place that showed up in pictures (not sure who to blame here, there were virtually no trash cans in the room, I guess I should have noticed that, and the photographer could have said something or moved us around or something). I was pleasantly surprised when the hotel didn't charge us for extra clean-up etc.

So I would just balance the idea of the mess and convenience of the hotel room, with the convenience of no mess and everything at the salon, versus transportation.

For my sister's wedding years back, we went to the salon because they didn't offer the service to come to you. It was pretty easy. For my friend's wedding last year, they came to the hotel and it was great! Both options are nice. I opted to have my hair and makeup artist come to my sister's home where we are getting married, because my venue does not have a bridal suite large enough. I would say have them travel if it is in your budget. I feel like it allows you to relax a little better than having to drive around the morning of to the salon, and to venue to get dressed.

We're having it done in my hotel room. No big, that's where I'm getting ready and I don't want to be shuffled around all day so I think it would be best.

I'm having the hair and makeup team come to the site. It'll be easier on me and my peeps, and the photographer will be there to capture the getting ready moments.

Our ceremony is an evening one so we have the luxury of time!! We are going to the salon in shifts as there will be 11 of us having our hair and make-up done that day. We don't need wedding day transportation for the party however...we will probably get a limo for the ladies to go to and from the salon.

I would have them come to the hotel. I would assume you are having a photographer. My reasoning was if I travel to a salon, I am paying my photographer to sit in a car, not take pictures. We are keeping the travel to a minimum so that we have as many photos of our day as possible.

Have you decided if you will go to a salon or have someone come to the hotel suite yet, Samantha? Have you found a HMUA yet?

I would say the hotel for sure! Our wedding venue is an hour away from home and has the bridal suite so I chose that of course but if they didn't I would have chosen the hotel we're staying in, in town the night before Smiley smile

My HMUA is coming to us. It will be one less thing to have to worry. I think you should make it as stress free as possible on yourself. We have a bridal suite at my venue, so I am also seeing it as a time saver not having to travel. So depending on how far the salon is to the venue, based on the hotels distance to the venue, you may also be saving time there! Plus, salons tend to be loud and hectic. At your hotel suite you can have cocktails if you want and relax with your bridal party!

Do it en suite.... it'll be easier for both bridal party and artist.

I would have them travel if they offer it! My HMUA will be traveling twice actually. I have 5 bridesmaids and myself to get ready so we are starting at 9am but we don't get the venue till noon and I walk down the aisle at 415pm so not enough time for everyone so we will start at our cabin then around 1145 pack up and travel to the venue and continue there at the bridal suite!
